This position will end effective one year from start date. Subsequent annual renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.

Purpose

To support the Department of Molecular Biosciences research infrastructure by strategically assisting with shared equipment, spaces, and resources.

Responsibilities

Oversee, manage, maintenance, and strategically advise on MBS Shared equipment (service agreements, fix versus replacement analysis, etc.

Should possess excellent communication skills and be able to gather information and make recommendations when instruments don't function properly.

Act as liaison with Environmental Health and Safety to ensure proposed disposal of chemicals and perform equipment decontamination procedures, as described.

Oversee and manage the care, stocking, maintenance, etc. of shared MBS research spaces (Cold Rooms, Dark Rooms, Film Processors, Autoclaves, etc.)

Oversee training, user logs, and compliance of all MBS shared equipment and shared spaces.

Manage and collaborate with CNS Facilities and other agencies for MBS surplus, lab closeouts, research lab moves, and / or renovations, etc.

Act as liaison with CBRS and other UT agencies to assist MBS with research equipment and space needs.

Act as liaison with CNS IT and assist with shared IT equipment.

Act as liaison with MBS Administrative team on space and inventory.

Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, life science or related field and two years of laboratory experience. Previous employment in a research lab with familiarity in using and maintaining lab equipment.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the required experience in a research lab. Additional experience maintaining laboratory equipment.Experience in project management.

Knowledge of University of Texas inventory systems and processes.

Salary Range

$48,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

May work around chemicals and chemical fumes.

May work around standard office conditions.

May work around biohazards.

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity.

Climbing of stairs and climbing of ladders.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.

The position requires the employee to be able to spend most of the time on his / her feet, standing, walking, or climbing on stepstools.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
