Site Medical Director – Emergency Department

IES comprises of a network of over 1,400 clinicians, health system partners in 8 states, and offers clinically integrated services to care for over 2,000,000(+) patients each year.
POSITION SUMMARY :
IES is seeking a Site Medical Director for the Emergency Department at Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton OK. The SMD is responsible for both providing care as an Emergency Physician within their scope of practice and the oversight and management of the clinical and administrative aspects of the Emergency Department and provider care team(s) at client hospitals of IES and its subsidiaries . This role is responsible for informing teams of policies, procedures, and objectives and will be instrumental in ensuring that the key performance indicators (KPIs) and key performance measures (KPMs) are attained. Will interface with key members of IES Corporate, Clinical, Operational, and Hospital leadership regarding the development and execution of service plan goals. Will be responsible for assisting in several key areas including, but not limited to, policy education and development, improving departmental efficiency, patient complaint and incident resolution, workforce management, and interdepartmental care coordination.
SITE SUMMARY :
Southwestern Medical Center is a Joint Commission-accredited full-service hospital with199-beds. Physician staff includes 150 providers in 31 specialties. Facility includes a 59-bed Med / Surg unit, 8-bed ICU, and an 11-bed ER . The ER has 24-hour single Physician coverage , 10 hours of APP coverage, & 20k annual visits .
Admission rate – 12% LWBS – 1.4% AMA – 0.8%
EMS Arrival – 11.5% Transfers – 2.4% EMR – Meditech
Leap Frog “A” hospital safety grade awarded 2024.
9th consecutive 3-year accreditation through CARF International.
Chest Pain Cetner Accreditation via American College of Cardiology.

Lawton is located in southwest Oklahoma, has a population of 90,000, and is within 30-minutes of the Wichita Mountains, Lake Lawtonka, and Fort Still. Lawton is nestled in an area well known for its world-class fishing and hunting. Mount Scott, which rises 2,500 feet above the plains, provides some of the most breathtaking scenery in the state and a chance to view free-roaming bison, longhorn cattle, white tail deer and elk. The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge provides a habitat for large grazing animals on its 59,020 acres. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Responsible for managing day-to-day operations of their provider care team(s)
Ensure that team(s) are aware of clinical and quality objectivesProvide medical oversight and ensure appropriate diagnoses and treatment plansConduct peer chart reviews, with pre-determine criteria, in regular intervals - at least monthlyResponsible for identifying and addressing clinical concerns and performance issues within the care team(s)Responsible for updating all relevant IES and Hospital staff on performance and resultsClinical Leadership :Supervise and mentor ED staff and act as a key liaison for the group
Educate and train team(s) on best clinical practices and thorough charting proceduresAnalyze data to identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actionsCollaborate with hospital administration and department leaders to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient continuity of patient care; serving on key committees as needed and requestedLead quality assurance initiatives to monitor and improve patient care outcomesWorkforce Management :Responsible for taking part in the interviewing, hiring, and onboarding processes
Responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing coverage is maintainedEnsure that staffing and financial resources are utilized efficientlyResponsible for evaluating performance and providing ongoing feedback related to the quality of care delivery, care coordination, professionalism, and adherence to policies, procedures, and compliance requirements established by hospital, state, local and federal guidelinesClinical Responsibilities :Provide emergency medical care, determining appropriate disposition (hospital admission or discharge as an outpatient with follow-up care as needed)
Treat a diverse patient population across various demographics and insurance statusesPerform physical exams and necessary procedures within guidelinesOrder tests, diagnostics, and treatments to assess patient conditionsInterpret lab tests, imaging, and ECGs as per physician’s scope of practicePrescribe medications and therapies, including physical and inhalation therapyAdminister vaccinations and inoculations to prevent communicable diseasesAdvise patients on disease prevention methods and refer patients to specialists as necessaryAccurately records patient information in electronic records per licensure standardsAttend required meetings and participate in quality improvement initiativesEnsure compliance with patient safety regulations (e.g., HIPAA)Perform other duties as assigned by IES and Hospital leadershipQUALIFICATIONS :
