Summary
The Health And Safety Specialist supports the implementation and maintenance of the QHSE program (Quality, Health, & Safety, and Environment) for the and their local site.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the transportation of hazardous materials in compliance with national and international regulations.
- Conduct Dangerous Goods Checks to ensure that all dangerous goods shipments adhere to applicable regulations, including packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements.
- Conduct internal audits to assess and maintain compliance with dangerous goods regulations.
- Keep abreast of changes in hazardous materials regulations and update company policies and procedures accordingly.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities, carriers, and other stakeholders to resolve compliance-related issues.
- Investigate and report incidents involving hazardous materials, implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Collaborate with transportation providers to ensure safe and secure transport of hazardous materials.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Ability to manage document control records defined by company.
- Create local process documentation.
- Organize and execute training and make training material available.
- Ensure risks & opportunities are identified within the quality function.
- Assist with special projects or assignments, as requested.
Educational background / Work experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Supply Chain, Logistics, or business field preferred.
- 3-5+ years of industry-related experience.
- 2+ years Dangerous Goods handling experience by various transportation modes (Air, Sea, Road).
- Familiar with IATA Dangerous Goods Acceptance Checklist.
- Extensive knowledge of the IATA DGR book required.
- In-depth knowledge of national and international regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials (, IATA, IMDG, DOT).
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex regulatory requirements.
- Proficient in using relevant software and tools for hazardous materials management.
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures related to hazardous materials incidents.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Transportation & logistics industry experience.
