The Opportunity
As a dedicated Software Engineer - Intermediate Level, you will join a dynamic and innovative team. You will work within Property Modernization as part of the ECIO organization at USAA.
You will predominantly work with technologies such as : AWS / Lambda / Go / EKS / Guidewire. We seek to modernize our Policy products including but no limited to Homeowners, Landlord, Condo, and Renters.
Within defined guidelines and framework, provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions.
Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations : San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do :
- Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions
- Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis
- Investigates and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques
- Continually improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
- Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
- Follows the software development lifecycle.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have :
- Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT)
- 2 years of software development experience specific to a discipline / technology.
- 1 year of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.
- Basic Understanding of one or more of the following : Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python
- Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting applications and systems within production issues.
- Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions
- Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
- Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
What sets you apart :
- Experience in integration between Openshift and / or AWS based runtime platforms and Guidewire Policy Center
- Policy Center transaction experience - Quote / Bind / Issue / Adjustment
- Experience with Java, Gosu, Golang development languages
- Experience with CI / CD, Devops
- Experience with Openshift, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS EKS, or any other container related runtime technologies

Compensation : USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive.
You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
The salary range for this position is : $74,210-$141,830.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
