Cambridge Rindge & Latin School Community :

Cambridge Rindge & Latin School is a comprehensive high school divided into four Learning Communities designed to promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students.

Honors courses are offered in all core classes (English, History, Mathematics, and Science); Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available to qualified students in grades 10, 11 and 12.

The Opportunity :

The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School seeks a Dean of Curriculum & Program, Science (Grades 9-12), to join our caring and innovative community beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.

This position reports directly to the school’s Principal and has primary responsibility for two major administrative areas : head of the high school science department and of the Learning Community S program within the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assume responsibility for the development and implementation of science departmental curriculum, including units, lessons and assessments
  • Plan and conduct professional development activities and meeting strands
  • Develop course assessments with teachers for diagnosing student needs and to inform improvement in curriculum and instruction through data analysis
  • Implement a system of benchmarks and assessments that indicate student proficiencies in the science curriculum frameworks and learning expectations
  • Implement a system to teach and assess the science department’s school wide learning expectation in each course and in the sequence of courses.
  • Embed SAT and MCAS content / format into the curriculum Establish departmental rubrics for grading and levels of proficiency.
  • Support AVID implementation of instructional strategies in science courses
  • Prepare course catalog and review coherence, sequence of courses by establishing a quality-review process
  • Schedule, supervise and evaluate science faculty.
  • Oversee placement of intern and observation students
  • Coordinate exhibits of teacher and student work
  • Assume all MCAS-related functions within the department, including instructional interventions and data analysis
  • Assume related departmental administrative duties, including budget and textbook inventory
  • Work collaboratively with fellow administrators to advance school wide goals and to facilitate transition of students from middle to high school curriculum and instruction
  • Oversee duties related to the administration of Learning Community S, including supervision of faculty and staff; collaboration with Dean of Students and student support staff to support student achievement;

and building an effective learning community climate and culture to support overall school mission.

Your Skill Set :

As the incoming Dean of Curriculum & Program you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications :

  • Minimum of five years experience as a successful teacher and / or administrator preferably in an urban secondary school setting.
  • Significant experience in the development of science curriculum and program and in collaborative professional development with adults.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
  • Master’s Degree in Education or higher required.
  • Massachusetts Principal / Assistant Principal 9-12 Supervisor / Director certification or certifiable required.

Terms of Employment : This is a 40 hour per week, 11 month position.
