Truck Driver (Class A CDL) West Region Position Summary :
Purpose
Safely and efficiently drives tractor / trailer to transport product from suppliers, to customers, and to inter-company operations according to company guidelines, supplier and customer requirements, and applicable laws.
Primary Responsibilities :
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations and Performance Measures
- Safely operates tractor / trailer in accordance with Company Policies, DOT Guidelines, and applicable traffic laws during the day or night and in various traffic and weather conditions.
- Conducts and documents pre and post-trip inspections on truck and trailer.
- Responsible for securing cargo on / in trailer; including tarping and / or strapping product.
- Makes product deliveries according to route and schedule provided by transportation planner
- At supplier and customer locations; must open, close, and secure trailer tarp, straps, curtains and / or doors to load and unload product.
- Clean and sweep truck and trailer as needed.
- Operate and maintain a Mobile Electronic On Board Recording Device.
- Report truck, trailer, equipment, and material problems and / or damage, accidents, and traffic violations promptly to the appropriate company official.
- Additional duties when hauling wood residual product :
- Consistently and accurately communicate supply plant residual bin levels and load weights via text message at each stop.
- Accurately complete BOL and other paperwork required to fulfill hauling requirements. Including : weighing tractor / trailer in and out of supply plant and customer scales, and recording accurate weight and product information into scale systems and / or on paperwork.
- Must gain knowledge of wood material species and product types to accurately complete paperwork process.
- Responsible for dumping wood residuals from supply plant bins into trailer; this includes gaining knowledge of how to safely dump the bins at each supply plant.
- Responsible for safely dumping wood residuals from trailers into customers wood residual receiving mechanism (trailer tippers and / or receiving bays).
- Responsible for shoveling / clean-up of wood residuals that may spill over from trailer onto ground at supply plants and customer facilities.
- Must be able to safely maneuver heavy haul tractors and 53 trailers through supplier and customer receiving yards. This includes backing up onto narrow ramps, and hitching and un-hitching trailers multiple times per day.
