Responsibilities*
- Case prep : Obtain and organize patient information prior to clinical appointment including construction of pedigrees from information provided by patients over the phone or by performing limited chart reviews.
- Assist patients and intake coordinators in gathering copies of medical records or genetic test results from the patient or family members where appropriate.
Assist as needed with authorization for release of information, coordination of molecular autopsies and sending benefit queries and medical records to testing laboratories.
Performing chart close out after clinical appointments through updating electronic pedigree using standard pedigree nomenclature, requesting any additional patient records from outside facilities, and ensuring any pertinent documents / outside medical records are uploaded to patient?

Laboratory communication : Corresponding with genetic testing laboratories and third-party payors to discuss testing logistics.
Providing laboratories and / or third-party payors with clinic notes, pedigrees, pathology reports and other medical records when requested for benefits investigations / prior authorization for genetic testing.
Assisting with other follow-up with laboratories including but not limited to; following up on pending test results, assisting with coordination of sample collection if not obtained during clinic visit and for additional family members as indicated for variant interpretation
- Results : Call and follow up on negative genetic test results. Enter all variants into a spreadsheet and organize.
- To provide services in accordance with Michigan Medicine Code of Conduct, ethics and values.
- Assist in communication with patients by answering questions regarding clinic visit expectations, anticipated turnaround time for genetic test results and reinforcing information from genetic counselors where appropriate.
- Triaging patient calls to the appropriate genetic counselor by monitoring the appropriate administrative inbasket pool for each respective clinic.
Checking mailbox daily to ensure that any incoming mail is given to the appropriate genetic counselor or other healthcare provider as indicated.
Assisting in training and supervision of work-study students when appropriate.
Required Qualifications*
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2 - 3 years of experience.
- Prior experience performing complex scheduling.
- Demonstrated customer service excellence and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Familiarity with obtaining medical records or professional medical billing.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a high-volume area.
- Demonstrated active listening, verbal, written and information technology communication skills.
- Must be very comfortable working with computers and have a general knowledge of office practices.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
- Requires flexibility in all aspects of work assignments.
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience working within a large, complex, outpatient healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of MiChart (EPIC-Cadence) and demonstrated proficiency with MiChart, Careweb, Microsoft Outlook, and ability to navigate between systems.
- Previous experience working with clinical staff (nurses, mid-level providers, and physicians).
- Working knowledge of cardiology / vascular / surgical terms, testing and procedures
- Familiarity with medical genetics and genetic counseling.

Part time 20 hours per week
