Spacecraft Electrical Power Engineer
Description
SAIC is seeking a Spacecraft Electrical Power Engineer with technical expertise in spacecraft electrical power generation (solar cells), storage (batteries), and distribution.
This position requires an active TS / SCI security clearance with Poly. It is supporting the Vehicle Engineering (VE) branch in Chantilly, VA.
This position spans both the GEO & HEO orbital regimes. In this role, you will be an integral participant in subsystem architecture, requirements development and verification, and unit design of a common electrical power subsystem spanning both orbital regimes.
The following tasks are representative of those that will be accomplished at the request of the Government Program Office (GPO) EPS Project Officer :
- Support the customer in the design, integration and test of the spacecraft bus EPS.
- Provide expert advice concerning subsystem development to the GPO EPS Project Officer.
- Review and coordinate on all changes to specifications, ICDs and system level requirements documentation for the EPS.
- Review subsystem, unit and manufacturing specifications for accuracy and ensure requirement allocation documentation is complete and accurate.
- Review drawings, documents and procedures for design, manufacturing and integration, and provide comments to the contractor and / or government.
- Track development issues, significant accomplishments and upcoming events and provide weekly status updates to the customer.
- Attend all unit, subsystem, system level design reviews, and program management reviews.
- Support all unit manufacturing reviews.
- Provide expert advice / analysis on EPS considerations for new satellite / payload developments.
- Coordinate with spacecraft bus development POC, other spacecraft subsystem leads, branch chiefs and division chiefs.
- Provide support to launch and satellite on-orbit test, as required by the customer.
- Attend Vehicle Engineering branch meetings as appropriate at the request of the GPO EPS Project Officer.
- Provide technical evaluation of EPS efforts in contractor Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
- Attend contractor gate reviews, pre-test, pre-ship and other meetings, as required.
Qualifications
- Active TS / SCI Clearance with Polygraph.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering discipline required (electrical engineering preferred).
- 7+ years of education and experience with spacecraft electrical power hardware and software development and test.
- Experience in defense and intelligence community acquisition and program management processes.
- Experience in hardware and software engineering, review of contractor designs, evaluation of operating modes, and witnessing of verification and validation activities.
- Experience in the design & integration of satellite buses.
- Knowledgeable of launch & flight operations of space vehicles.
- Basic understanding of satellite systems and architectures.
- Available to travel occasionally domestically.
