Description of Position

An entry-level project management position, the Assistant Project Manager is an integral member of CPM project team responsible for managing a portfolio of building and infrastructure projects system-wide.

The project team manages design, program scope, schedule, and budget to preserve, maintain, and improve the University's capital assets and help fulfill its academic mission.

Responsibilities

This position will work directly with CPM design and delivery project managers and assist with the management, performance, and completion of moderate to complex renovation, new construction, and utility infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on Interior Design.

The Assistant Project Manager, under supervision, will assist project managers through all phases of a Capital Improvement Project;

these phases include Pre-design / capital budgeting; Design; Construction; and, Operational turn-over / occupancy.

  • Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following : (20%) Project scoping and assessment; (20%) Project Budgeting;
  • 20%) Procurement of design, construction, and related services; (10%) Project team leadership; (10%) Contract management;

10%) Project scheduling; and (10%) change management.

Assistant Project Managers are expected to interface with and use accounting, procurement, and project management software.

Analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and make decisions on matters of significance with other project managers, within the scope of position responsibilities.

Perform other duties as required.

Position reports to the Director of Design.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in architecture / interior design, engineering, construction management or related field plus 2 years of experience.

The two years of experience can include : two-year student internship; two calendar years working in a design, science or engineering field (not specifically 4160 hours);

or two calendar years working at a hands-on job that requires a design / technical understanding, which may include design firm internship or any job where math science or hands-on understanding of "how things work" is required and is applicable to architecture, engineering, construction management or related fields.
