Department Summary

The Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute, is the national institute on Smart Manufacturing (SM) for the United States.

The Office of Advanced Research Computing (OARC) is the organization within UCLA and administrative home of CESMII, which it operates in partnership with the U.

S. Department of Energy's Advanced Manufacturing Office. CESMII drives innovation in SM through a membership network, education and workforce development program, funded research projects, and a Smart Manufacturing Innovation Platform.

Smart Manufacturing is the application of advanced technologies such as sensors, controls, analytics, modeling, and platforms to increase efficiency in manufacturing.

CESMII's mission is to accelerate SM adoption, which will radically impact manufacturing performance through measurable improvements in areas such as quality, throughput, costs / profitability, safety, asset reliability, and energy productivity.

By enabling frictionless movement of raw and contextualized data (i.e., information) between real-time operations and the people and systems that create value in and across manufacturing organizations, CESMII is ensuring the power of information and innovation is at the fingertips of everyone who touches manufacturing.

Position Summary

The Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute within the Office of Advanced Research Computing, UCLA, has an exciting opportunity we would like to share with all those interested in the field of Information Technology with an emphasis in Smart Manufacturing.

The department is looking for an experienced IT Architect to fulfill a vital position to further advance the mission of the organization in support of research and education.

Salary & Compensation

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

• 5 years Application engineering / solutions consulting, Business Development driving revenue growth in software, industrial automation technology / solutions, membership business targeting manufacturing sectors. (Required)
• 3 years Development or testing or implementation of software platforms, solutions or tools including application software, embedded computing, or enterprise software (Required)
• 3 years Software development and / or implementation of OT (Operational Technology) or manufacturing systems (Required)
• 5 years Process engineering / manufacturing engineering experience (Preferred)
• 3 years Customer / end user project engagement experience (Preferred)
• 3 years Common programming language such as Java, C# or Python and some experience with API's like REST or GraphQL. (Preferred)
• 1 year Industrial programming language such as Ladder logic, SFC or G-Code (Preferred)
• Comprehensive knowledge of Enterprise Manufacturing landscape (Required)
• Demonstrated experience in developing innovative solutions in both Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) environments (Required)
• Demonstrated knowledge in integration or application of manufacturing technologies such as sensing, control, modeling, simulation and analytics (Required)
• Demonstrated ability to apply complex concepts to clear user experiences (Required)
• Possess strong written, verbal, & presentation communication skills (Required)
• Possess strong teamwork influencing, and coaching skills (Required)
• Ability to efficiently prioritize multiple concurrent tasks while working in a complex and dynamic environment, and to ensure that the deliverables are accomplished (Required)
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with all levels of the organization as well as external partners (Required)
• Demonstrated oral communication skills, on both an individual and group basis, sufficient to effectively and efficiently obtain and impart information and explain concepts (Required)
• Demonstrated technical expertise in software development and application knowledge for manufacturing applications (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree Computer science, electrical or computer engineering, information technology, business, or a related field, and five years of experience, or equivalent experience / training (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment

• Background Check : Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
• Age Requirement : Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
• 50% This shall require significant amounts of travel in the United States to customers, industry events, conferences, trade shows, training events, and member events.

Estimated amount of travel can be up to 50%, primarily domestic
