Specialists actively serve students in obtaining the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their courses. In particular, the Biology Department is searching for an individual capable of assisting instructors in delivering a welcoming, captivating, and intellectually challenging learning experience to our pre-major biology and pre-health science students.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Under lecture faculty and / or lab instructor supervision, specialist will aide students with classroom or laboratory activities, provide peer-tutoring on topics, assist the instructor in course preparation, provide general maintenance / organization of classroom and Canvas spaces, and / or grade formative assessments.
Specialists will collaborate with course instructors to determine specific tasks for the course. Hours typically range from 2-20 hours per week, depending on curricular needs as determined by the course instructor.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications Completion in the college biology course in which they will assist with a B or above grade.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities General knowledge of basic biology.
Knowledge of the content that pertains directly to the course they will be an aide for.
Effectively interact and communicate with a wide range of community college students, faculty, and staff, respecting differences in abilities, socioeconomic status, culture, and ethnicity to foster positive relationships throughout the college.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
