Specialized Unit- Assistant Public Defender III
The Georgia Public Defender Council, Specialized Unit Division in the Central Office, is seeking to hire an Assistant Public Defender III.
Primary duties include representing indigent clients with criminal cases in Superior Court and Magistrate Court. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position.
Interested candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years trial experience. Criminal law experience is a plus. Applicants must be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
A strong commitment to indigent defense is also required.
Description of Duties : The Assistant Public Defender III will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients in the Complex division of Superior and Magistrate Courts.
This position may perform mid-level professional legal work and assist in cases of routine complexity. Also, perform as an expert attorney, assigned to serious, high profile, and significant felony cases.
Performs other related duties as required.
Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity and two (2) years of relevant legal -experience;
or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021).
