JOB TITLE : Assistant Director of Nursing
STATUS : Full Time
TYPE : On-Campus / Hybrid as permitted by Director
REPORTS TO : Director of Nursing
PURPOSE :
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational and administrative functions of the Nursing program.
The ADON will work closely with the Director of Nursing to ensure the highest standards of nursing education are maintained, students receive exceptional support, and the program remains in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
The ADON will also assist in curriculum development, faculty coordination, and administrative tasks, contributing to the overall success of the Nursing department.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES :
- Holds an active and unencumbered California Registered Nurse license
- Master’s or higher degree, preferably in an appropriate discipline, from an accredited college or university which includes course work in Nursing, Education and / or Administration
- Have a minimum of three year’s experience as a registered nurse; one year shall be in teaching or clinical supervision, or a combination thereof, in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years;
or have a minimum of there year’s experience in nursing administration or nursing education in the last five years.
- Have completed a course or courses offered by an approved school with instruction (1) teaching, (2) curriculum development, and (3) administration
- Equivalent experience and / or education as determined by the Board of Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians
- Strong knowledge of nursing education standards and accreditation requirements
- Effective leadership and team-building abilities
- Must have strong technical skills including all computer applications, internet research, database management, and analytical skills
- Experienced with Canvas or related LMS usage for instruction (assignments, quizzes, discussion boards, gradebook, modules) is preferred
- Online, hybrid, remote or blended teaching experience is highly desirable
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to develop and maintain the curriculum, ensuring it meets state and accreditation rules and standards and industry requirements
- Assist in the development and review of course materials, assessments, and teaching methodologies
- Create a compassionate, supportive, student-oriented and caring academic environment
- Monitor student progress and provide academic support as needed
- Assist in recruiting, training, and evaluating nursing faculty members
- Coordinate faculty schedules and assignments, ensuring proper coverage for classes and clinical rotations
- Facilitate regular faculty meetings to foster communication and professional development
- Provide guidance and support to students, including academic advising and addressing student concerns
- Oversee clinical placement for students
- Assist with the preparation of reports and documentation required for accreditation and state regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with the Director of Nursing on budget management and resource allocation
- Help organize and participate in nursing program events, such as orientations and graduation ceremonies
- Adhere to the educational institutions policies and professional codes of conduct, respecting confidentiality and upholding ethical standards
- Incorporate team-based learning strategies, participate in faculty meetings, engage in professional development and foster an inclusive and diverse learning environment
- Participate in College committees assigned by the Executive Team
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Campus Director, Director of Nursing
