THE POSITION
- The Director II, Division of Special Education, shall plan, organize, direct, and manage the Special Education Division within the County Office;
- formulate programs and policies; coordinate and oversee services provided by the Office to school districts and other entities;
- direct the preparation and administration of budgets; direct the development and implementation of professional learning;
provide interpretation and guidance of compliance to laws; and coordinate special programs / services. The position requires specialized subject matter expertise in education and comprehensive, directly related, administrative experience.
Knowledge is applied to the administration and management of human resources. Under general administrative direction, the Director II makes decisions of critical consequence, impacting recommendations and development of new or revised policies, procedures, and program services;
has responsibility for supervision of a division with programs and services staffed by professional personnel; most frequently meets with the Chief Academic Officer along with other policy makers and internal staff for the purpose of planning and directing activities, implementing decisions, justifying and defending decisions, and negotiating or settling significant and / or controversial issues.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION : Experience : Comprehensive, directly related, and progressive experience which includes three or more years as a teacher or service provider and at least five years of administrative experience.
Experience as a special education director is desirable, although experience with direct oversight of special education programs will be strongly considered.
Education : Equivalent to a master’s degree in education or a closely related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

- Must possess and maintain a valid K-12 teaching credential and / or PPS credential.
- Must possess a valid California Administrative services credential.
- Holders of special education credentials preferred as knowledge of teaching methodology is critical to this position.
