This Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Earth & Environment Team in Louisville, KY . This role will be embedded at an automotive facility, offering a unique opportunity to work onsite within a leading manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of manufacturing experience and environmental consulting expertise, contributing to impactful field investigation projects and supporting a dynamic, growing organization.

In this position, you'll assist with SPCC inspections, stormwater inspections, tank inspections, collecting and tracking air permit data, working with onsite suppliers, and perform other intermittent tasks as determined by the plant environmental manager. Other responsibilities may include conducting geophysical surveys, collecting environmental samples (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air / vapor), and performing site exploration and geologic logging using various drilling techniques. You'll also be responsible for producing clear and accurate documentation of field conditions and ensuring all work meets or exceeds industry standards.

Your Impact

  • Provides technical assistance and guidance for the collection, identification, and compiling of observational and spatial data concerning a variety of aspects primarily at a large manufacturing facility.
  • Provides support and guidance for environmental work and permitting projects.
  • Tasks may include assisting with the development of processes and infrastructure relating to water, air emissions, pollution control, and preserving the quality of the environment by identifying, controlling, and preventing disruption to environmental systems caused by human activity.
  • Generates accurate and concise documentation, assessing and advising on project areas, and applying and integrating the science of the interactions between the physical, chemical, and biological components of the environment to solve environmental challenges.
  • Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working as an environmental scientist and completing environmental surveys, fieldwork, habitat and impact assessments, and / or construction monitoring.
  • Analytical skills, and prior experience with research techniques, local / regional ecology and habitats, and applicable species required.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective manner to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug / alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
