Job Description
The College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University seeks a Part-Time Faculty to teach HOM Music and Identity (3 credits) for the Department of Art & Music Histories during the Fall semester.
This upper elective undergraduate course, which has an enrollment of 30 students, provides a critical study of the intersections of music and various types of identities.
Case studies will consider how music and identity are mapped along intersections of class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, nation, and more, and how these identities operate within different contexts ranging from communal interactions to commercial marketplaces.
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department.
This position is subject to funding availability and enrollment. Qualifications A Ph.D. or ABD in Music History or a related field.
Job Specific Qualifications None Responsibilities Part-time Instructor duties will include the following :
- Developing and / or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.
You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part-time instructors. Physical Requirements Not Applicable Tools / Equipment Not Applicable
