Position Overview : The Shop Manager at our esteemed auto body shop is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, managing the repair team, assessing vehicle damage, preparing comprehensive repair estimates, and ensuring seamless communication between customers, technicians, and insurance providers This position requires a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a passion for delivering exceptional results.
Responsibilities :
Team Leadership : Provide leadership and direction to the repair team, including technicians, painters, and support staff.
Motivate, train, and mentor team members to achieve their full potential and maintain a high level of craftsmanship.
Workflow Management : Plan, organize, and manage the repair process to ensure efficient and timely completion of repair jobs.
Prioritize tasks, allocate resources, and adapt to changing demands to maintain optimal productivity.
Quality Assurance : Ensure repairs are executed to the highest industry standards and meet customer expectations. Perform thorough quality checks on completed work before vehicles are returned to customers.
Customer Interaction : Interact with customers, addressing inquiries, explaining repair procedures, and providing accurate estimates.
Strive to exceed customer satisfaction by maintaining clear communication throughout the repair process.
Estimating and Invoicing : Review damage assessments and prepare accurate repair estimates. Coordinate with the office administrator to ensure accurate invoicing and billing.
Damage Assessment : Thoroughly assess vehicle damage, identifying all necessary repair work and creating a detailed list of parts and labor requirements.
Parts Coordination : Coordinate with the parts department to ensure timely availability of required parts for repairs.
Inventory Management : Manage parts and materials inventory, ensuring availability for repairs and minimizing downtime. Collaborate with suppliers to maintain a well-stocked inventory.
Technical Expertise : Stay current with automotive repair techniques, industry trends, and technological advancements. Provide guidance to the repair team on best practices and emerging technologies.
Health and Safety : Enforce and promote a safe working environment for all team members. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
Budget Management : Monitor and control shop expenses, including labor, materials, and overhead costs. Contribute to budget planning and expense reduction initiatives.
Reporting : Generate regular reports on repair progress, team performance, and financial metrics. Present reports to upper management and provide insights for strategic decision-making.
Vendor and Customer Relations : Build and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and insurance partners. Foster positive relationships with customers to enhance loyalty and repeat business.
Continuous Learning : Attend training sessions, workshops, and educational programs to enhance your knowledge and skills in automotive body repair.
This role involves occasional travel for industry events for training.
Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in the estimation process.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Automotive Management, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
Proven experience in automotive repair management, preferably in an auto body shop setting.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
Proficiency in automotive repair processes, terminology, and industry best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interactions and team collaboration.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Proficiency in using computer software applications for estimating, scheduling, and reporting.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards within the automotive repair industry.
Proven experience as an estimator with at least four years of relevant experience.
Registered with I-Car and Have Current I-Car training as well as I-Car Platinum.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Strong knowledge of automotive repair processes, parts, and labor requirements.
Physical Requirements : This role involves a combination of office work and shop floor presence. It may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and occasionally lifting heavy objects.
