We hope that you do think about such things, because those are exactly the kinds of questions you’ll be chewing on as the product manager for this hot company’s social-media management app, which helps musicians establish and maintain the social presence they need in order to thrive.

It’s a really exciting gig, with true ownership of the function a chance to create game-changing technology.

Nitty Gritty

This thing will be yours to build, own and operate, which means you’ll start out by getting answers to fundamental questions like those outlined above, to come to the clearest possible understanding about what contemporary musicians need from social media and what’s the best way to build and deliver those services, tools and features.

The customer insights you gather and the competitive research you conduct will help you develop your product strategy and requirements.

You’ll carefully and methodically break out your goals, deliverables and stages, mindful of the fact that the product’s P&L is your own responsibility.

Testing will figure large in your roadmap : You’ll collaborate with people in analytics and marketing to gather customer segmentation data.

You’ll be forever hunkering down with the QA folks over acceptance-testing results. And you’ll be incorporating the work of UX and design pros as you go.

The feedback you pull in from various sources will be used to make constant improvements to the product, post-launch.

This is far from a one-and-done gig. The expectation is that you will always be thinking as a businessperson, which means making intelligent new-product proposals, coming up with smart ways to improve profitability and leading the launches of the resulting new products.

Your enviably meteoric career as a go-to product manager is coming up on the five-year mark now. More than once you’ve proven yourself capable of building, launching and managing digital products and services, with a particular expertise in the worlds of mobile and social.

You know from experience how to manage a budget and how to move a product through an agile / waterfall cycle of creation and iteration.

That, of course, entails real leadership, the ability to inspire people to share their best ideas and deliver their very best work.

You’re highly organized, naturally collaborative, and able to operate both strategically and in a very hands-on way all at once.
