Job Duties :

We welcome applications for a Full-Time Academic Advisor who will engage students in decision making processes and promote appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements as well as help support their holistic development as a person and member of the student community. As an Advisor you will maintain appropriate confidentiality, update student advising records, and contribute to the development and delivery of academic advising related events and programs. Ensuring students receive accurate, and timely advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion; while working in a fast-paced, positive, supportive work environment.

This is a full-time, 12-month appointment with an anticipated start date of Nov. 1, 2025 or sooner.

Key Job Responsibilities :

  • Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co / curricular programs offered by the school / college
  • Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
  • Proactively engages students as needed
  • Implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
  • Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study / career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
  • Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
  • Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures

The UW-Stout Advisement Center is a campus resource for students in the areas of academic advising, career exploration, and student development. Advisement Center advisors are professionally trained to understand the needs of first-year students and empowered to help guide students to achieve their life goals. Compensation :

Minimum starting salary of $42,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. A six-month probationary period is required.

  • Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working in a student or customer support or success environment.
  • Desire to help students succeed and achieve their goals.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Earned master's degree in higher education administration or related field.
  • Ability to work independently to achieve goals.
  • Experience presenting information in individual and large group settings.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment to solve complex problems.
  • Experience in post-secondary academic advising. Preferably working with first-year, first-generation, or high-risk populations.
  • Experience in post-secondary setting involving advising, recruitment, retention, or related student affairs area.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems, Student Information Systems, Degree Audit Management Systems, and CRMs.
  • Knowledge of Student Development Theory and its application to academic advising.
