Overview of the Staff Accountant role :
- Cost Accounting : The Staff Accountant performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Financial Statements : The Staff Accountant prepares monthly financial statements.
- General Ledger : The Staff Accountant maintains the general ledger.
- Reconciliation : The Staff Accountant reconciles cash disbursement accounts, customer accounts, and other financial accounts and handles accounts receivable collections.
- Accounts Payable : The Staff Accountant verifies accounts payable to ensure payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Audit Assistance : The Staff Accountant assists outside auditors and gathers necessary account information and documents to perform the annual audit.
- Tax Filing : The Staff Accountant files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- Software Coordination : The Staff Accountant coordinates with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems and recommends updates to enhance the software.
- Knowledge Maintenance : The Staff Accountant maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Additional Duties : The Staff Accountant performs other related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications for the Staff Accountant :
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Experience : 2 years of accounting and financial operations (closings / cost / tax) experience is preferred.
- Knowledge : Strong general financial and cost accounting knowledge is a must. Understand and adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Tax Reporting : Proven ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
- Software Proficiency : Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel.
- Communication Skills : Excellent interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills.
- Organization : Team player who is highly organized and has attention to detail.
- Environment : Familiarity and willingness to work in a deadline-oriented environment.
