Job Description and Duties

This position is located in the city of Sacramento. COVID-19 Impacts to Working at DOR DOR is closely monitoring the status of COVID-19 and ensuring our staff are supported in a safe work environment.

While working on-site at any DOR facility, employees must follow current COVID-19 health orders issued by the California Department of Public Health or local health jurisdiction.

DOR offers a hybrid work environment including in-office and remote work options for various positions.Under the supervision and direction of the Manager, and guidance from the designated employee, the Support Services Assistant-Interpreter (SSA-I) provides reasonable accommodation associated with work-related activities to support persons who are Deaf / Hard of Hearing (D / HH) with performing necessary job assignments.

The SSA-I facilitates communication between individuals with hearing impairments and hearing persons, serves as an interpreter to include interpreting confidential information;

accompanies staff members to places of business where interpreting services are otherwise unavailable; and performs other duties related to assisting the communication process.

Interpreting services is performed in-person and virtually dependent on the needs of the D / HH individual and the venue.

When the assigned employee is not in need of assistance, the SSA-I may be assigned to work similarly with other staff members.

Working Conditions

Permanent Intermittent employees are expected to work 1500 hours in a calendar year first before additional hours can be considered and approved.

The anticipated time worked will be approximately 30 hours per week. The interpreter is required to provide in-person services anytime the deaf and hard of hearing employee is present in the office.

The interpreter will primarily support the headquarters and provide field support on an as-needed basis.

The hourly range for the Support Services Assistant - Interpreter is : $22.09 - $31.57. The monthly salary indicated at the top of the posting is structured for full-time employment.

Special Requirements

The position(s) require(s) fluency in the American Sign Language language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.
