POSITION SUMMARY :
Under the guidance of laboratory QA / QM Manager, the POC a nd LIS Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the integration and functionality of point-of-care testing and laboratory information systems within all areas of the hospital.
This role demands a seasoned professional with extensive experience in Point of Care test set up and monitoring, specimen processing, data management, and laboratory operations.
The coordinator will work closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and compliance with healthcare regulations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, and information technology, capable of managing both the technical and interpersonal aspects of the position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Basically a point of Care supervisor for Nurses performing POC tests in hospital. Provides technical oversight for Point of Care testing performed to meet / exceed accreditation standards.
- Ensures that the test systems are properly functioning. Maintains, troubleshoots and takes corrective action with equipment as needed.
- Works with nursing, physicians, employees and management as needed to ensure Point of Care testing is running efficiently and effectively
- Oversees and coordinates all point-of-care testing activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards under the supervision of the manager.
- Assists with monthly reports for POC, LIS for laboratory under the guidance of the manager.
- Provide support for point of care related information systems, including implementation and validation of new middleware / software / test systems / firmware.
- Monitor POC middleware and laboratory software systems for errors.
- Review and respond to service tickets related to POC and laboratory instrumentation.
- Manages the laboratory information system (LIS), including system updates, user training, and troubleshooting anytime of the day, as needed.
- Assists in setting up and monitoring LIS interface for new analyzers in laboratory and POCT.
- Serves as the liaison between laboratory staff, IT, and clinical departments for LIS and POC testing.
- Develops and implements training programs for staff on POC procedures and LIS functionalities.
- Ensures the laboratory's operational efficiency by optimizing workflows between POC testing and LIS reporting.
- Provide data to assist manager with follow up of issues related to POC / LIS / IT
- Under the guidance of the QA manager, maintains records for all POC related records, parallel tests, validations, PT tests, etc.
to ensure they are complete.
- Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives related to POC testing and LIS management.
- Collaborates with laboratory management, IT, and manufacturer to integrate new technologies and methodologies for improved patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the laboratory's mission and goals.
- Follows guidelines related to Health insurance Portability and Accountability Act, designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Heath Information.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
A. Education
- Bachelor’s in science or equivalent
- Advanced certification or training in phlebotomy, medical technology, QA / QM or related health field preferred.
B. Qualifications / Experience
- Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist with 1 year of experience in Point of Care or QA / QM experience required.
- Unlicensed personnel will be considered with a minimum 3 years of experience as a POC assistant or have at least 2 years’ experience as a lead or supervisor in laboratory unit.
- Strongly prefer experience with point-of-care testing operations and laboratory information systems.
- Proven ability to manage projects and implement new technologies within a healthcare setting.
C. Special Skills / Knowledge
- Strong technical proficiency with LIS, POC testing devices, and computer applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of hospital staff and management.
- Ability to lead training sessions and educate staff on complex topics in an accessible manner.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and quality assurance practices in a laboratory setting (CAP, TJC, etc.)
- Ability to understand and troubleshoot LIS issues related to interfaces, connectivity, test builds, etc.
