The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery seeks an outstanding leader in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) to serve as Section Chief.
In partnership with the Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Section Chief will have the following roles and responsibilities :
- Oversee academic and operational activities within the PM&R Section on all campuses, including pediatric and adult PM&R teams.
- Manage day-to-day activities of the section, mentor faculty, promote research and coordinate educational programs.
- Work with the Chair to direct the vision and manage the clinical expansion of the foot and ankle service.
- Work collaboratively with medical leadership across all divisions at in Orthopaedic Surgery.
- Work with departmental leadership to manage the Section’s budget, faculty recruitment and evaluation.
As a PM&R specialist, the candidate will provide diagnostic and clinical management with the full spectrum of neuromusculoskeletal diagnoses.
The selected candidate will be appointed to the Assistant / Associate / Full Professor rank of the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical, Clinical X, or In-Residence faculty series.
The selected candidate will be expected to collaborate in investigative work that leads to publications in peer-reviewed journals and participate in both didactic and bedside teaching and mentoring activities for our medical students, residents, and fellows.
The candidate may be based at any of the UCSF sites, including, but not limited to : the Orthopaedic Institute, the Spine Center, Zuckerberg San Francisco General, Benioff Children’s Hospitals or satellite clinics (including UCSF Marin Health, Redwood Shores and / or Berkeley Outpatient Clinic).
The candidate have full access to all UCSF sites and academic resources. It is anticipated that this position will require 30-40% administrative work;
other responsibilities will be adjusted accordingly.
Requirement :
Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire.
- A valid California medical license will be required as a condition of employment.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited program, or equivalent.
- Completed an accredited PM&R residency program.
- Board certification / eligibility in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 : . The minimum base salary range for this position is $149,700 - $393,200.
This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan () which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
The total negotiated salary for this position will include the base salary plus the negotiated component, determined at the time of offer.
