The Forensic Registered Nurse provides comprehensive care to sexual assault victims, conducts forensic exams and provides expert testimony when required for legal purposes
Education and Experience :
- Basic Life Skills (BLS) from American Heart Association
- BSN) Bachelor Science Nursing + 2 years of nurse practice
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner’s Certificate preferred
Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
Valid nursing license issued from Texas State Board of Nursing or compact
state
Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of nursing standards and practices in
accordance with nursing scope and standards of practice (ANA, 2010)
- Adheres to forensic practices as guided by the International Association of Forensic Nurses
- Special interest in scientific and technical activities for understanding and
responding to nursing problems and concepts
- Excellent communicator, skilled in written and verbal communications
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to
problem solve and exercise independent judgement
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position will interact with hospital department leaders, employees, patients, and their families. This position may require attending court and meetings offsite of hospital campus
