Director of Carrier Sales and Development
Director of Carrier Sales and Development is responsible for leading and building upon our existing team of exceptional Carrier Sourcing and Sales representatives who are responsible for sourcing all 3rd party capacity for R+L’s deep customer base within our transactional offices.
In addition, the Director of Carrier Sales and Development is responsible for leading and managing our organizations relationships with our carrier / provider base, including overall performance, capacity, compliance and commercial rates.

Director of Carrier Sales and Development responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following :
- Lead the hiring, training and development of R+L’s team of capacity sourcing specialists and carrier sales team members and their support staff
- Lead the hiring, training and development of a leadership team to drive continuous improvement in both key performance metrics
- Lead both the development and active management of the finest performing partner carriers, local cartage and P&D agents in the United States, Canada and Mexico to generate profitable carrier capacity and meet or exceed organizational profitability and metrics
- Create and drive a carrier development plan strategy that successfully allows the organization to meet its monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals and initiatives
- Partner and align with your internal business partners to develop new carrier resources, prepare bid packages, negotiate existing agreements, and execute carrier contracts in regards to rate inquires or increases
- Research market trends and seasonality in the freight industry, responding to capacity related challenges by presenting viable solutions
- Consistently oversee the freight from origination to destination and take responsibility for any occurrences while solving them both constructively and timely
- Dispatch trucks, update orders and load screens while also properly closing orders timely through our carrier system
- Develop strategies for continuous improvements
- Must possess the ability to meet deadlines, work well under pressure, prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, and maintain discretion on confidential matters
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and inter-personal skills, with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with people in all levels of the organization
- Foster a positive work environment; mentoring, coaching, and developing team members in order to provide opportunities for growth;
developing current and future leaders for the organization
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation or other related field of study, or adequate level of work experience
- 5+yrs experience in carrier business development, carrier operations, and carrier pricing and negotiations in a third-party logistics environment
- 5+ years’ leading and supervising others
- Demonstrated management skills with emphasis on guiding and developing a team, customer service, communications, and planning
- Ability to effectively negotiate with carriers in regards to market rates
- An analytical approach to logistics planning that creatively solves challenges
- Effective communicator via telephone and electronic communication
- Ability to make timely decisions in a complex environment under pressure
- Exude a competitive nature and a desire to surpass existing goals
- Results oriented with the drive to want to grow within the organization
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing unmatched customer service
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
