Position Overview
The Senior Director of Child Development is an ideal role for an innovative and strategic leader and relationship-builder who wants to work alongside a team of educators to design, develop, and evaluate early childhood education.
The Senior Director ensures developmentally appropriate curriculum grounded in children's unique interests and a safe and healthy learning environment for every child.
Providing services to hundreds of families at three centers and across a network of nearly 40 home-based childcare providers, the Senior Director plays a critical role in building and implementing FACES’ high-quality and inclusive "two-generation" programming that creates impactful and inclusive services for children and their families across the organization.

What You’ll Do
Program Development
- Lead program planning, design, and implementation of child development programs for infant, toddler, preschool and school-aged students at 3 centers and 34 homes.
- Implement a two generation model by collaborating on programming and resource sharing with the Family Support and Wellness (FSW) and Workforce Development teams.
- Partner with the Inclusion team to ensure inclusive services in compliance with state requirements for meeting the needs of exceptional children.
- Partner with the FSW and Enrollment teams to ensure strong communication and support to families.
- Partner with Evaluation Manager to design, implement, and learn from research and data.
Program Supervision
- Monitor and support Child Development team in the implementation of Creative Curriculum and all required assessments and screenings (including Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), Environmental Rating Scale (ERS), Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ), and Classroom Assessment Scoring System(CLASS)
- Lead, supervise, and coach Child Development management team (Site Supervisors, Director of FCCHEN, BaseCamp Program Manager) and the Director of Enrollment.
- Ensure program staffing needs, including recruitment, hiring, and onboarding are met through collaboration with program leads, People and Culture (P & C) team, and Chief Program Officer.
- Schedule and coordinate staff development, including coordinating outside trainers as needed.
- Coordinate partners, other providers and consultants to support program operation and service.
- Ensure organizational policies and procedures are followed and adhered to.
Program Administration
- Review and update program policies and procedures, including parent, teacher, and family child care provider handbooks, to set culture and maintain program safety and compliance.
- Ensure the program aligns with State Community Care Licensing requirements and federal, local, and CDC guidelines and regulations (including Title 5 and Title 22).
- Maintain all necessary program records and oversee reporting to licensing and relevant funders.
- Ensure strong partnership between the Child Development program and other FACES departments.
- Co-develop and maintain the program budget with Finance and the Chief Program Officer.
- Participate on local and state committees relevant to early care and education initiatives.
Qualifications
You have a solid mix of the following knowledge, ability, skills and experience :
- Possess or qualify for California Child Development Program Director level permit (required)
- 10+ years of experience managing licensed child care centers, excellent knowledge of CDE licensing requirements, demonstrated ability to measure program performance
- 5+ years progressive experience in State and / or Federally funded child care programs
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills; experience leading and working with diverse staff
- Bilingual (Spanish / English) fluency preferred
- Ability to meet required state, federal, local, and CDC standards (including but not limited to fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, First Aid, CPR)
- Maintain good health, lift up to 50 lbs. and move up and down stairs without limitation

- Annual salary between $120k - $136k bas ed on experience and qualification
