The Medical Assistant will assist Physicians and other Providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies for the department and assisting with patient care.

Responsibilities :

  • Escort p atient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB .
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Organize patient flow .
  • Setup p rocedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to i nstructions .
  • Prepare Path / lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan .
  • Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed .
  • Check to-dos / Nurse line .
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule . Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records .
  • Maintain infection control and make sure s upply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
  • Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients , thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable.
  • Anesthesia / Inject for p rocedures.
  • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner .
  • Must maintain HIPAA compliance

Qualifications :

  • Able to triage patient problems.
  • Be familiar with and compliant OSHA / HIPAA , infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen S tandards .
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Knowledge of office financial policies .
  • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization .
  • Able to operate standard office equipment ( i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc )
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in an effective , cooperativ e, and courteous manner with staff , patients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to read , understand and follow oral and written instruction .
  • Ab ility to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically .

Licensure / Certifications / Education :

Education and Experience :

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelors degree program in the pre-med or pre-physicians assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.

Physical Requirements :

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
  • Use of hands and fingers.
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
