Overview :
Pittsburgh Allegheny County Jail is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide medical evaluations and treatment of patients within the Allegheny County Jail facility under the supervision of the MAT Medical Director (Acadia Healthcare, Inc) and staff and work collaboratively with them under the guidelines of state licensure for Nurse Practitioners.
The Allegheny County Med Unit offers greater access to medications for opioid use disorder MOUD than many jails and prisons in Pennsylvania.
The county agreed to offer MOUD to all who would benefit, not just pregnant people or those booked with a valid prescription.
This is important, and life changing treatment for those in greatest need.
This position requires Board Certification / Eligibility, an interest and / or experience in MAT. This is a part time positiion and the hours are 7 AM until 1 PM.
Job requires at least 1 weekend day and we offer a competitive compensation plan. We own and operate 160+ MAT programs throughout the US.

- Diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team.
- Conduct induction assessments, including H&P, documentation on addiction, etc., and obtain verbal order confirmation from MD.
- Participate in the formulation of patient Master Treatment Plan
- Assess physical and psychiatric health of patient and formulate measures to meet patient needs.
- Chart clinical observation (direct or through dictation), evaluations and treatment of patient in required time according to facility guidelines.
- Communicate with physicians and other staff as necessary to provide quality care for patient within appropriate guidelines.
- Support and follow legal requirements, hospital policy and procedures, medical staff bylaws and regulatory requirements.
- Provide services that are in accordance with the state guidelines for Nurse Practitioners.
- Provide on-call responsibilities on scheduled basis directed by medical staff.
- May focus on health promotion and disease prevention. May order, perform or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays.
May prescribe medication.
Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints.
Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
On call weekends, if / when a new inmate needs inducted.

Qualifications :
- Master's in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner program required.
- Clinical experience working with the patient population of the facility; ability to demonstrate knowledge of concepts of limit setting, therapeutic boundaries, crisis management, therapeutic treatment, environment and patient care required.
- Previous work within jail / prison systems preferred, but not required.
Licenses / Certifications :
- Board Certified Nurse Practitioner required.
- Licensed to practice in the Pennsylvania.
- DEA license.
