Pay range : $16.34 / hr - $22.38 / hr
Position Summary
The primary duties of the Rehabilitation Aide include a variety of clinical and clerical support functions for the Rehabilitation Services departments and associated clinics.
The Rehabilitation Aide may perform only specific and delegated treatment related tasks as directed by the supervising therapist as allowed by the state of Oregon Administrative Rules for physical and occupational therapy.
Works under the general supervision of a Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapist or assistant, and responsible for the preparation of treatment areas for patients.
Supports clinic operations by answering telephones, filing and retrieving information, inputting data, scheduling patients, assisting staff and patients as required, all while maintaining excellent customer service.
Other duties include cleaning, organizing, ordering and stocking clinical areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performed majority of the time :
- Accepts assignment of patient from supervising therapist and follows through with treatment plan under clinician supervision.
- Sets up the patient’s room in preparation for the treatment with the therapist (inpatient).
- Escorts / transports patients to appropriate treatment area (outpatient).
- Instructs and assist patient to prepare for treatment, e.g. dress, position, etc. (outpatient).
- Ensures patient modesty and privacy.
- Carries out treatment requests as instructed by supervising therapist.
- Ensures patients leave facility in a safe manner (outpatient).
- Cleans and sanitizes treatment areas and / or equipment / supplies after each patient use.
- Stores equipment / supplies after each patient use.
- Performs other duties as assigned regarding medical records (EMR).
- Assists in scheduling of patients (outpatient).
- Orders, stocks and inventories equipment / supplies / linen.
- Assists in collection of data for comprehensive total joint program, productivity, charge audits and other projects (inpatient).
- Assists in providing therapy to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
- Informs therapists regarding patient responses to treatment and any questions that may arise.
- Actively participates in team meetings
Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job :
- Completes 40 hours of training in both treatment related and non-treatment related tasks as defined by the Oregon Physical Therapist Licensing board appropriate to the specific practice location (see department specific orientation checklist).
- Actively participates in performance reviews.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education : Required
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
Two (2) years of college.
Experience : Required
Required
Brief knowledge of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy assessments and treatments.
Preferred
- Background as a rehabilitation aide or volunteer in a rehabilitation setting.
- Interest in long term career in rehabilitation services or other healthcare related field.
Licenses, Certifications and / or Registrations :
Required
American Heart Association HealthCare Provider BLS preferred upon hire and required within 90 days of hire.

- Presents a personal appearance that makes a positive first impression.
- Trained and demonstrates competence in the use of treatment related modalities and proficiency in operation, maintenance and use of equipment to each specific clinic location per departmental check off list.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics and technique when assisting the therapist with patient mobility.
- Understands appropriate state and federal limitations regarding utilization of rehabilitation aides in the clinical environment.
- Uses appropriate protective equipment, infection prevention techniques and proper disposal of hazardous waste to assure patient and personal safety.
- Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills, communication skills and the ability to work as a team player.
- Promotes accident prevention and reports potential hazards to maintain a safe environment
