The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Roger Lehecka Double Discovery Center (DDC) works with first-generation college-bound youth from low-income communities to ensure high school graduation, college access & enrollment, and college persistence & completion to support the productive transition into responsible adulthood.

The Center is a department located within Columbia College that is funded from different sources, including government grants, corporate and foundation funding, institutional funds, and individual donors.

DDC is home to the nation's TRIO program, Talent Search, funded partly by multi-year grants from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Post-Secondary Education.

The Associate Director of On-Campus Programs, College Access Programs and Associate Director of In-School Programs, College Access Programs work collaboratively to ensure organizational coherence and intentionality across all College Access programs and practices.

The AD of On-Campus Programs is responsible for leading a team of College Access Advisors in the design, implementation, monitoring, and refinement of high-quality CAP programming that includes but is not limited to Saturday Academy, Summer Academy, Junior Mentor Program, College Tours, Admissions Visits, and SAT Prep;

along with providing direct student counseling that strengthens the college readiness, access, and success of the DDC students and their families.

The Associate Director supervises two full-time counselors, mentors, instructors, and student workers.

THIS IS A DONOR-FUNDED POSITION. CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IN THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON ONGOING SUFFICIENT FUNDING.

Responsibilities

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION, AND REFINEMENT

  • Works with the Associate Director of In-School Programs, Associate Director of Academic Enrichment, and Associate Director of Healthy Minds & Bodies to build a comprehensive college access program in alignment with DDC's defined scope of work.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and refinement of the College Access activities, including the creation of curricular materials (e.

g., scope and sequence, lesson plans, etc.) for the grade-level college prep courses.

  • Establishes protocols for the college access counseling / advising of the Center's college-bound youths.
  • Organizes and oversees the staffing, logistics, and operations of all college access programming, including but not limited to : Saturday Academy, Summer Academy, SAT Prep, and college tours.
  • Manages the daily supervision of the On-Campus team to ensure the production and delivery of high-quality programming and individual advising, including the design and implementation of professional development activities to build the team's capacity to enhance programmatic efforts.
  • Oversees the cultivation of different partnerships (campus-based and external) that expand the learning opportunities and college & career exposure of DDC students.
  • Collects, analyzes, and uses program data (e.g. stakeholder feedback, student progress reports, etc.) to inform program development and enhancements.
  • Prepares and delivers program presentations and reports.
  • Maintains a student caseload for college counseling and advisement.

ADMINISTRATION

  • As part of the leadership team, assists with the implementation, monitoring, and refinement of DDC's strategic plan.
  • Collaborates with colleagues on implementing roadmaps that include clear milestones, work streams, and owners.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements changes to programs and practices to improve workflows.
  • Creates and maintains up-to-date documentation of programs and practices.
  • Responsible for the recruitment and hiring of student workers that support College Access Programming including but not limited to : Saturday Academy, Summer Academy, SAT Prep, and college tours.
  • Oversees the orientation and training of all student workers.
  • Supports the data management functions of the organization by ensuring the timely collection of student data e.g. demographic and indicators of academic and non-academic progress including transcripts, Regents passing, school attendance, disciplinary infractions, SEL outcomes) from various sources.
  • Ensures compliance with all practices related to the university's Protection of Minors policy as well as DDC's child safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience required (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience with college counseling / advisement, and youth program development required.
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate persuasive arguments in writing and orally to motivate and influence people;

and to exercise sound professional judgement in all interactions.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and productively contribute to a coherent organization culture as well as to a leadership team focused on deepening programmatic impact.
  • Demonstrated effective program development and management skills, including ability to be flexible, to manage multiple projects as well as to prioritize competing and shifting demands / needs of stakeholders in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Consistently strong track-record of reliably creating effective and accurate deliverables / work products in timely fashion to meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed collaborative skills, as evidenced by the ability to work as part of a team with a strong initiative to drive forward project goals that are data-informed.
  • A passionate commitment to expanding opportunities, particularly college access, and persistence, for first-generation college-bound students from low income communities, as well as students of color.
  • Ability to leverage a data-driven approach to problem-solve with a results-orientation across programming effectively.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends when students are attending programs and for special events*
  • Must be able to work several overnights during the five-week residential Summer Academy*

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in education or social work preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NYC public schools and youth development landscape, especially in the area of after-school and expanded learning opportunities for college access and persistence preferred.
  • Experience with academic planning, college counseling, teaching and tutoring of middle school, high school youth, and re-entry students preferred.
  • Spanish fluency (written and oral) preferred.
