Respiratory Description
Provides respiratory care relating to evaluation, treatment, teaching and support for a complex and varied group of Patients.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities includes, but not limited to :
- Responds to cardiac and respiratory arrest according to Hospital policy.
- Enters, maintains, and retrieves department computer information.
- Answers questions and concerns regarding respiratory care issues from patients and families.
- Responsible for setup, monitoring, troubleshooting and systematic changes of all respiratory equipment.
- Performs invasive / non-invasive ventilator management on age specific sub-acute, rehabilitative and chronic patients.
- Assists in special procedures as requested by Director.
- Performs treatment medication preparation and administration and maintains accurate and current medication records.
- Responsible for respiratory patient assessment, evaluation and treatment.
- Collects and records all vital signs accurately.
- Makes respiratory therapeutic changes as determined by evaluation and treatment protocol and prescribed by a physician.
- Performs and labels culture and specimen collections from all patients as needed.
- Participates in orientation and training of entry personnel.
- Participates in departmental quality improvement activities.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Is assigned on-call by Director as needed.
- Is scheduled by Director according to Department needs.
- Assists with lifting and moving patients and their equipment, weighing up to 200 pounds, using safe body mechanics.
- Successfully completes Hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements.
- Run Quality Control and blood gasses in the lab.
- Manage airways including emergent and routine tracheostomy tube changes.
- Transport patients to other Hospitals
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary to the operation of the department.
Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma or its equivalent is required. Completion of a two-year certification and / or four-year respiratory care program is required.
Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
Certification, Registration, or Licensure required by the Job
- Current Massachusetts respiratory care license.
- Current BCLS certification is required; PALS and NALS are recommended
- Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
