Position Summary :

The Director of Partnerships and Development is responsible for developing and managing strategic partnerships with aligned corporations and nonprofit organizations and managing the organization’s fundraising and development activities.

This individual is the primary liaison and point of contact for all partnering organizations and serves as the primary manager for all development activities.

Outside from business revenue and major and recurring gifts, the Director of Partnerships and Development is directly responsible for securing funding to support the organization’s annual budget.

This role is critical for advancing the mission and goals of the organization through relationship growth and management and donor and funder engagement.

The Director of Partnerships and Development reports directly to and works closely with the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

Partnership Development :

  • Identify and pursue potential partnerships that align with the organization’s mission, core values, and strategic objectives.
  • Conduct thorough research and due diligence on prospective partners, assessing their compatibility, resources, and potential synergies.
  • Initiate and build relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders within partner organizations.
  • Track and log activities related to engagement of prospective partners.

Partnership Management :

  • Manage the Documenting Hope Partnership Program. This involves keeping an accurate and updated database of all partners, their commitment levels, partnership status, contract expiry and more.
  • Manage Partnership Relationships by staying in contact with each partner monthly via program updates, social media shares or other DH news.
  • Negotiate and secure formal partnership agreements and contracts that outline the terms, roles, and responsibilities of each party.

Renew agreements annually.

  • Coordinate and facilitate joint projects such as social media campaigns or Healing Together parent platform opportunities with partners, ensuring effective collaboration and resource allocation.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, ensuring that partners’ concerns and perspectives are valued and incorporated into decision-making processes.

Be aware of which partners compete with each other and treat accordingly.

Resource Mobilization :

  • Explore opportunities for resource sharing, including conference sponsorships, in kind donations or collaborations, lab interpretation expertise, and other assets, with partner organizations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to leverage partnerships for resource mobilization, such as joint fundraising campaigns like Champions for Children.
  • Represent the organization at relevant events requiring relationship development.

Development

  • Collaborate with organizational leadership to establish and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, including new member cultivation, member dues and add-on structures, and other initiatives.
  • Manage portfolio of donors.
  • Provide leadership for all development activities.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events in collaboration with Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Manage grant writing and identification of new grant opportunities in collaboration with Executive Director.
  • Generate donor communications, newsletters, and annual report in collaboration with Executive Director.
  • Assist in creation of print, digital and social media content pertaining to fundraising.
  • Network and maintain regular correspondence with donors.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of partnership initiatives, membership growth strategies, and fundraising efforts, providing regular reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging opportunities in fundraising, partnership development, and grant management, and provide recommendations for innovation and improvement.
  • Oversee receipts and acknowledgements to donors; Ensure proper tax receipt and acknowledgement for each donation.
  • Serve as an advocate for the organization, promoting its mission, values, and partnership opportunities within the broader community.

Tracking, Reporting and Analysis :

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive records of partnership activities, agreements, and outcomes.
  • Track partner conversations and interactions in CRM notes.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to organizational leadership and stakeholders, highlighting partnership achievements, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Analyze partnership data and metrics to identify trends, evaluate effectiveness, and inform strategic decision-making.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., business administration, nonprofit management, or a related discipline).
  • Proven experience in partnership development and management, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders and C-level executives.
  • Extremely well organized, facility with tracking methods, databases and CRM.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies, donor engagement and management and resource mobilization.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Proficiency in project management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to nonprofit partnerships and collaborations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling grant proposals, partnership proposals, and other fundraising communications.
  • Able to work independently with minimal management and oversight.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills, with the ability to influence and secure partnerships and funding opportunities.
  • Comfortable working both virtually and in-person
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management and budgeting principles, with the ability to develop and manage budgets related to fundraising, partnerships, and grants.

Documenting Hope is a small organization. There are certain organizational activities like our annual conference that require all-hands-on deck.

Must have team spirit and be willing to jump in and pivot when needed.

Time Commitment and Compensation :

This is a part-time, work-from-home position. This position starts at 25 hours per week and moves to 30 hours after a 4-month trial period, pending performance and achievement.

This position will move to a full-time position once fundraising milestones have been achieved. Incentive bonus based on organizational milestones are a part of total compensation package.

Compensation offered will be commensurate with experience, skills and knowledge base.
