Overview

The Director of Grants and Contracts is responsible for the research, development, coordination, writing, and submission of all corporate, foundation, and government applications.

This position will work closely with SVP of Strategic Initiatives, VP of Development, and division SVPs and VPs. They also manage a team of contract writers.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment where they manage multiple projects and timelines. Deadlines are often tight, and there will be occasional after-hours work editing or revising proposals.

This position is hybrid with the expectation of being in the office at least twice a week.

Responsibilities

  • Identify potential government funding sources posted on COMMBUYS and other sites.
  • Share relevant RFRs and Notices of Opportunity with division leadership.
  • Manage development, editing, and submission of bids for government contracts, working closely with division leadership, contract writers, and colleagues.
  • Assist with drafting and submitting Requests for Information.
  • Work with division leadership to identify funding needs for potential corporate or foundation grants.
  • Develop annual calendar of corporate and foundation requests that align with funding priorities.
  • Identify new corporate and foundation funding opportunities throughout the year.
  • Manage development and submission of all corporate and foundation proposals, working closely with division leadership, contract writers, and colleagues.
  • Manage internal procedures regarding acknowledgement, tracking, and reporting on all corporate and foundation grants.
  • Exercise diplomatic persistence in helping colleagues across the agency meet deadlines.
  • Establish and foster relationships with corporate and foundation funders.
  • Participate in community groups and coalitions as a representative of Advocates.
  • Assist Development colleagues with two annual fundraising events.
  • Establish effective working relationships across the organization.
  • Participate in department strategic planning and goal setting
  • Attend and actively participate in supervision and staff meetings.
  • Ensure that individuals we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates’ Human Rights policies.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • BA / BS in English, Communications, or related field and a minimum 5 years experience in non-profit grant writing or project management.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to compose professional level correspondence and meet deadlines with excellent proofreading skills and command of English language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • High proficiency in project management, attention to detail, prioritization of work and organizational skills.
  • Experience submitting bids on COMMBUYS is a plus.
  • Ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in fast paced team and independent environments.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Google, and donor databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to an operational and insured vehicle.
  • Strongly prefer a candidate that will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • High energy level, superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere
  • Experience with Microsoft products and online submission software
