Description

Would you like to join a fast-paced team committed to creating cutting edge data science tools? Would you like to advance the frontier of using artificial intelligence to make business decisions?

Do you want to positively impact the lives of millions of Amazon Prime members? If yes, the Prime Science team is looking for you! We are seeking a talented business intelligence engineer (BIE) to join the Prime Science team.

Prime Science is the core science team within Amazon Prime. We build recommendation systems, simulation technology, and insight-driving data science.

These tools ensure Prime remains one of the world's most loved membership programs. At Prime, understanding what our customers want, using data, is critical.

It helps Amazon constantly re-invent the Prime membership in a customer-obsessed way. A BI engineer on our team will help us do this by navigating one of the most complex data environments in the world.

A person in this role will work closely with a team of applied scientists, economists, data / software engineers, and product managers.

They will build data solutions that support statistical and econometric modeling. These tools will evaluate company-wide investments intended to make Prime better.

This person will serve as the front line of visualizing our data and bringing its insights to life. This data includes output data from machine-learning and econometric models.

A person in this role will learn state-of-the-art approaches to causal and counterfactual statistical modeling. They will partner with our data and software engineering teams to create industry-leading artificially-intelligent software tools.

These tools maximize the productivity of internal business and finance teams tasked with making high-judgment strategic decisions.

They will also learn how to extract key insights from data. These insights are consumed by company-wide leadership. They serve as an input to a broad set of strategic discussions for the company.

The role is unique in its exposure to senior-level business professionals and strategic decision-making. It is also unique in its close collaboration with scientists and engineers involved in creating the next generation of causal machine-learning tools.

As a BI engineer, you will be expected to use platforms like Amazon Redshift and Spark to build SQL queries, model metadata, and build reports and dashboards.

You will create visualizations using tools like Amazon Quicksight or Tableau. You will connect these visualizations to software tools designed by the broader engineering team.

You will build efficient, flexible, extensible, and scalable ETL designs and mappings. Finally, you will provide technical leadership and mentoring for BI engineers across Amazon Prime.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
  • Experience writing complex SQL queries
  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab
  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
  • Master's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field
