We are currently searching for a ASC Registered Nurse Pre-Screening (RN) to join our team at our Matthews Ambulatory Surgery Center.

The scheduled hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8 : 30am 5 : 00pm.

The ASC Registered Nurse Pre-Screening (RN) will have experience in delivering excellent service to physicians and patients and participating in high-performing teams.

Must exemplify our organization's values of Quality, Teamwork, Service and Community. The RN has technical expertise in orthopedic peri-operative nursing and clinical care.

The RN must possess the ability to collaborate with teammates, anesthesiologist, and other partners related to gathering healthcare information.

The RN is also responsible for the coordination of the telephone pre-admission assessment process for patients in the ASC environment.

This is primarily a telephonic position; strong customer service and computer skills are required. The RN must be able to multitask, manage high case volumes and complete heath screenings with time constraints.

Additional responsibilities include :

  • Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes.
  • Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions.
  • Evaluating the patient's past medical history and surgical plan using the PAT anesthesia protocols
  • Interview pre-operative patients to gather necessary data to evaluate appropriateness for the ASC setting.
  • Reviewing all preoperative test results and notifying physicians when results are outside normal limits or incomplete.
  • Serving as initial and primary contact for referral sources to direct screening and clearance of patients scheduled for, or potentially to be scheduled for procedures.
  • Understanding medications and their actions and educating the patient on which medications need to be taken the day of surgery.
  • Managing patient's other co-morbid conditions as applicable.
  • Assessing the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person.
  • Providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medical management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
  • Involving patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
  • Protecting patient's rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.

Education / Experience :

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • RN with active NC state license. Certification in Orthopedics preferred.
  • BLS, PALS, ACLS certification.
  • One year of ASC, PACU or Operating room experience.
  • Cross-trained across PACU and OR preferred.
