Army Junior ROTC Instructor (24.25 School Year)

Primary Purpose :

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the Army JROTC program to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.

Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in Army JROTC.

Contribute to education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in Army JROTC.

Education / Certification :

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Must hold or obtain the appropriate Army certification required to serve in the Army JROTC program.
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.

Special Knowledge / Skills :

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct and supervise students.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience / Other Requirements :

  • As determined by the Army Junior ROTC Program.
  • Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on district business.
  • Class B CDL with P and S endorsement (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the Army JROTC curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by, the Army JROTC Program, Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Manage and supervise Army JROTC activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in Army JROTC skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching / learning process.

Student Growth and Development

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Counsel students in the Army JROTC program as needed.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of unit to assure Army JROTC program objectives are met.
  • Instruct and advise students on Army JROTC regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Plan extracurricular activities for the Army JROTC unit including color / honor guard ceremonies, drill team and rifle team competitive meets, field trips, basic leadership training, etc.)
  • Accompany and supervise Army JROTC unit during extracurricular activities and competitions.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during Army JROTC events, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Perform simple preventative maintenance of training aides and devices.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Prepare periodic reports on program administration and logistics.
  • Make annual presentations of the Army JROTC program to students at feeder schools for the purpose of recruiting new cadets into the program.
  • Establish contact with civic groups to obtain their recognition and support of the Army JROTC program.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, Army JROTC, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Keep current with new developments and organizations within the Army.
  • Attend Army-sponsored training to keep current on requirements of the program.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Requisition all government furnished equipment (uniforms, training aids, books, drill rifles, air rifles, and organizational equipment).

Ensure proper physical security of all government furnished equipment / materials. Inventory control of all government furnished equipment / materials.

  • Maintain financial accounts of Army JROTC operating budget.
  • Prepare financial vouchers to the Army for reimbursement of expenditures to the school, made in support of the Army JRTOC program.
  • Arrange for cleaning and tailoring of uniforms.
  • Surveying old and word uniforms and other government property.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance ad learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

Supervise assigned teacher aide (s).
