Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst will plan, customize, organize, and maintain the geographic information system (databases and associated hardware and software), generate and analyze spatial data and provide input / recommendations to support a variety of projects, produce a wide variety of reports and maps, prepare data, analysis, maps, and mapping applications for various departments and the public, and perform a variety of technical tasks related to assigned area of responsibility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Analyze, develop, and implement GIS applications in support of County GIS functions; conduct complex spatial / surface analysis using a variety of GIS software tools;
utilizes multiple databases and GIS software to perform spatial analysis for special projects working with a team of users, from the County and other organizations.
- 2. Analyze GIS needs of assigned department and implements GIS projects and applications, databases, and related products for County departments and outside agencies;
- assist and train staff members in the operation of GIS software and the query and display of geographic data.3. Perform GIS database management and administration tasks;
troubleshoot and resolve database problems; monitor and update database applications; verify the integrity of data within the database.
4. Design and modify database structures, tables, and files. 5. Conduct research on mapping issues, owner and local agency inquiries;
interact with clients to determine their business requirements and write computer programs and / or scripting in order to automate GIS processes.
6. Troubleshoot hardware and software problems; provide or recommend appropriate solutions and keep current on the latest computer hardware and software available.
7. Evaluate operations and makes strategic recommendations about the GIS program direction and GIS project priorities. Develop operating standards and procedures.
8. Create and edit geospatial data, using GPS and digitizing techniques; create and edit maps, integrating a range of data formats, and using state-of-the-art technology.
9. Conduct regularly scheduled maintenance of the various GIS databases; create and implement topology rule sets and conduct quality assurance to ensure system integrity.
10. Attend training meetings to enhance knowledge of GIS system use; apply and document new techniques as they are implemented.
11. Incumbent(s) in this classification may handle sensitive and / or confidential records, plans, documents or decisions that require maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Planning, Cartography, Geography, Civil Engineering, or related field, and one (1) year of work experience in Geographic information Systems, preferably in a public agency.
Any equivalent combination related to education and / or experience may be considered for the above requirements. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSThe offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following : 1.
Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation. 2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
3. May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance may also be required.
4. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position. WORKING CONDITIONS1. All essential duties are performed indoors.
2. Duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment.3. Duties are performed on an even surface, which may be carpeted or tile.
Working surface is typically dry.4. Worker often works alone both with and without directions from supervisor.EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALSEquipment typically used in the performance of office duties includes telephone, computer keyboard, computer printer, bursters, typewriter, photocopy machine, facsimile machine, and calculator.
Materials and products handled in the course of performing essential duties include files, forms, reports, various other paperwork, and a wide variety of basic office supplies.
