JOB DESCRIPTION :

  • Supervises program support for overall program management and nutritional research projects or studies.
  • Develops and follows research protocols.
  • Studies may involve nutritional screening, assessment, establishing a nutritional care plan, nutritional counseling, and education.
  • Provides direct supervision of staff. Responsible for direct oversight and supervision of Research Dietitians, Research Diet Technicians, Project Managers, and support staff.
  • Trains and evaluates staff.
  • Assists the director in applying the business model as needed.
  • Develops, implements and maintains SOPs in coordination with the director, project managers and staff.
  • Works with staff in developing patient education resources for various projects.
  • Develops new ideas that promote current research.
  • Identifies problems, collects data, and assists with preparing and publishing manuscripts, posters, and oral presentations for new knowledge under the direction of the Director / Principal Investigator.
  • Acts as a nutrition resource for physicians, nurses, dietitians, patient care committees, etc.
  • Participates in the development of nutrition-related projects, research and education programs.
  • Participates in grant-funded research projects and study implementation by collecting and entering data using valid and reliable methods with some oversight.
  • Develops new ideas, identifies problems and assists with preparing and publishing manuscripts, posters, and oral presentations for new knowledge and research under the direction of the Program Director / Principal Investigator.
  • Under supervision, interacts with study participants at various stages of the life cycle by participating in study recruitment, enrollment and scheduling of study subjects for visits.
  • Performs protocol implementation, diet assessments, metabolic testing, nutrition intervention and patient / provider education.
  • May also support and manage the research and metabolic kitchen at the Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Alliance (GA CTSA) research center (GCRC) as assigned.

GCRC Administrative : Manages the administrative, research and clinical nutrition responsibilities of the bionutrition unit including the research metabolic kitchen.

Responsible for implementing dietary protocols, managing the metabolic kitchen and providing nutritional care or oversight of this function to study subjects.

Manages the operation of the research metabolic kitchen to ensure accurate delivery of diets as defined by the research protocols.

Develops and implements the policies and procedures of the bionutrition unit. Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates the kitchen staff.

The bionutrition co-director may also be involved.

Works with the business manager to forecast the budget needed for personnel, equipment, maintenance and supplies. Submits monthly billing to the business manager so studies are billed appropriately.

Prepares reports of activities as needed for annual reports, site visits, grant applications and renewals. Participates in the planning and roundtable meetings to ensure bionutrition services are documented.

Evaluates, uses and maintains computer systems to manage food purchasing, preparation and storage. Research & Clinical : Collaborates with study team including the principal investigator and study coordinator to plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate the bionutrition services that may be needed.

Following study protocols, may perform nutritional assessments, make nutritional care recommendations and document appropriately.

May inform study subjects of the nutrition-related aspects of a study and evaluate compliance according to study protocol.

Following study protocols, may collect and interpret nutrition-related data as stated in protocol. May participate in the publication and presentation of research findings.

May develop and conduct nutrition research projects with the co-director or other research staff. Trains providers, students, interns and support staff in nutrition research design and methodology.

Establishes, maintains and encourages positive interdisciplinary relationships to facilitate the planning and implementation of research projects and have effective participation.

Provides bionutrition services with minimal oversight. Services include Indirect calorimetry / resting energy expenditure (REE), Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), Bioelectrical impedance (BIA), skinfold and circumference measurements, SubMax (treadmill), Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET), feeding study support including meal challenges, meal preparation & distribution, BOD POD (air displacement plethysmograph) and food record and recall nutritional analysis using a specialized nutritional program and Nutrition Data System for Research (NDSR).

Performs other responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS :

These responsibilities are primarily conducted at GCRC and medical nutrition therapy for prevention (MNT4P) program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's degree in Nutrition, or Dietetics or related field OR Maintains a specialty certification from an approved nutrition related area.
  • Four years of clinical or research nutrition experience. Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Initiates and maintains development of a professional portfolio through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) to reflect professional and career goals.
  • Maintains licensure and registration by participating in continuing education activities including an average of 15 nutrition-related continuing education hours annually.
  • Licensed as a dietitian in the state of Georgia, or is licensure eligible.
  • SERV Safe Food Handler Certification to be in place or will plan to get within 90 days of employment.
  • Emory Healthcare credentialing for research once applicant starts employment as directed by leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • A culinary degree / certification or cooking background. Managerial or supervisory experience.
  • PhD degree in Nutrition, or Dietetics or related field.

NOTE : Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
