Information Technology Training Manager

Summary :

Reporting to the Director of Academic and End-User Technologies, the Information Technology Training Manager provides leadership to the Gallaudet and Clerc Center communities on awareness, skill acquisition, and fluency in all areas of digital literacy necessary to navigate an ever-advancing digital world.

Job Description :

Supervises and ensures the effective and efficient operations of the eLearning Center; provides leadership to ensure quality customer service.

Coordinates the design, development, and delivery of information technology-related training programs and materials for university and Clerc Center employees and students as appropriate;

collaborates with other training providers and stakeholders for seamless and efficient implementation; and conducts ongoing assessment of training programs and reviews current trends and best practices to provide an excellent and effective learning experience.

Supervises the eLearning Center staff; conducts annual performance evaluations; participates in hiring, management, and professional growth;

oversees student worker staff; coordinates contract workers and outsourced projects; manages daily operations; and serves as an effective supervisor enabling the center to operate smoothly and collaboratively with other GTS units.

Coordinates the identification, development, implementation, and management of new and ongoing technology-related training plans and programs for GTS staff as well as for Gallaudet and Clerc Center staff and students.

Oversees design and development of training programs, including creating course content; outsourcing content development as necessary;

reviewing external training programs and vendor partnerships; and selecting appropriate training methods or activities including, but not limited to, mentoring, on-the-job training, professional development classes, train the trainer sessions, and in-person, Zoom, or self-paced asynchronous courses.

  • Arranges logistics for training implementation; coordinates support staff and super users for training, office hours and on-shift support;
  • arranges accommodations as requested; maintains calendar; advertises available training; and manages registration processes;

and maintains in-house training facilities and equipment.

Conducts training classes as needed on software applications and personal computing issues including Office 365, online learning competencies, online security and citizenship, etc.

Provides educational technology guidance and expertise for K-12 faculty in the areas of classroom integration technologies, devices, and learning management systems such as Chromebooks, Microsoft technologies, Smart Boards, Apple and PC tablets, MacBooks, and G Suite.

Conducts regular organization-wide training needs assessment and identifies skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed in consultation with campus stakeholders and in alignment with university strategic goals;

and identifies goals, outcomes, and skills assessment criteria for trainees.

Collaborates with various campus subject matter experts and external partners / vendors including GTS business owners of software platforms and systems, human resources, instructional design teams, health and safety teams, departments with department-managed systems, IT projects teams, University Communication, and the university IT Steering Committee (ITSC) to identify training needs and skills gaps, assess effectiveness of training, maintain operational awareness of upcoming new technology initiatives and upgrades (attends vendor demos and trainings), and streamline various training efforts and provide cross-functional support and coordination.

Creates and prepares easy-to-understand training materials that can be used with a diversely skilled audience, including, but not limited to, manuals, Knowledge Base articles, videos, and other work aids.

Assesses instructional effectiveness and determines the impact of training on employee skills and key performance indicators (KPIs);

gathers feedback from trainers and trainees after each educational session; and evaluates training materials and recommends changes and updates in accordance with industry best practices.

Maintains training records and an up-to-date curriculum database.

Keeps abreast of research and best practices of online education and services, and on current and evolving online trends with and needs of traditional and nontraditional students;

and shares information with GTS leadership, faculty and teachers, and administrative and academic leadership as appropriate and uses information to recommend continuous growth and updates.

  • Works with central and non-central technology service providers and functional offices to ensure coordination and follow-through on services;
  • participates as a member of the Gallaudet Technology Services (GTS) Leadership Team; participates as a member of the GTS team, wherein each function has persons with primary and backup responsibilities;
  • fulfills primary functions assigned to this position and trains backup personnel for this position; fulfills backup functions assigned to this position;

and maintains skills for the backup functions.

Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

Performs related and other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree.

A minimum of four years of professional experience with training, workforce development, or a related field.

Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications :

Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Strong knowledge of instructional design theory, learning management systems, and web delivery tools.

Strong knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.

Strong knowledge of adult learning theories and education methodologies.

Strong knowledge of instructional design theory, learning management systems, and web delivery tools.

Strong creative and analytical problem solving and documentation skills.

Strong familiarity with current training programs and trends.

Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple training events in K-12 and higher education environments.

Demonstrated experience in conducting needs assessments.

Demonstrated experience with Bison (PeopleSoft) and other platforms including Salesforce, Blackboard, Zoom, Office 365, MS Teams, etc.

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle and prioritize simultaneous requests, and manage laterally and upwards.

Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.

Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
