The , Department of Developmental Services () West Region is recruiting for one (1) part-time second shift job opportunity for a position at the White Plains Rd Respite Center in Trumbull, CT.

  • STARTING SALARLY INFORMATION
  • New hires to the classification of Developmental Services Worker 1 shall be paid an hourly rate of $24.00 / hour (HM14).
  • Upon successful completion of the working test period, effective the payroll period following, the Employee shall be compensated at an hourly rate of $25.11 / hour (HN14).
  • Current DDS employees $45,870 - $62,188 yearly based on experience.

  • Part-time 2nd Shift 35 hours bi-weekly
  • Schedule : Friday & Saturday 2 : 00 pm 10 : 45 pm
  • Regular Days Off : Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
  • However, work flexibility is required in order to meet the needs of the agency.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Will be required to obtain an F-Endorsement on their driver’s license by the completion of the working test period.
  • Will be required to travel.

In your role as a Developmental Services worker 1, you will have the opportunity to :

  • Receive training in, then independently implement, policies and procedures designed to achieve objectives of a program for persons with intellectual disabilities;
  • Provide assistance and instruction to individuals in activities of daily living;
  • Participate in therapeutic programs for development of individuals capabilities;
  • Provide guidance and instruction to individuals in development of desirable personal habits, hygiene and social relationships;
  • Implement individual program plans;
  • Participate in preparation, serving and feeding of meals;
  • Perform housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a clean and health environment;
  • Participate in social and recreational activities;
  • Reinforce appropriate individual behavior through modification techniques;
  • May administer selected oral medications with appropriate training;
  • Perform related duties as assigned;

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for acting as part of a team in an intensive programming effort designed for the care, guidance, supervision and training of individuals.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and / or training that could be expected to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates who have :

  • Experience working with individuals with an intellectual and / or developmental disability ID / DD;
  • Experience with modern methods of working with ID / DD, or related conditions in a community environment;
  • Experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors;
  • Experience interacting with and explaining information to individuals in a fast paced environment that involves considerable phone and email contact;
  • Experience driving wheelchair vans;
  • Experience with overhead lift systems;
  • Medication certification;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and maintain their Medication Certification as defined by the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing Declaratory Ruling Delegation by Licensed Nurses to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel,;

when working in a location that does not have 24 hour nursing care.

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license, Public Passenger Endorsement or Commercial Driver's license for designated positions.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties; a physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals; may have significant exposure to communicable / infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive / abusive individuals;

may be exposed to strongly disagreeable conditions.
