SUMMARY :

Provides students with instructional support and assistance and supervises students in the classroom before, during and / or after school to ensure a positive, safe environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Supervises students in various settings.
  • Prepares and supervises developmentally appropriate activities aligned with the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy as assigned by the preschool teachers or program supervisor.
  • Directs movement of groups to and from classrooms and school areas such as playgrounds, bus or pick up line, and gym / motor room in a safe and organized manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for monitoring student behavior; ensures student safety, administers appropriate consequences in response to unacceptable behavior, encourages peaceful resolution of conflicts, and reports unacceptable behavior to the preschool teacher, as needed.
  • Gives individual attention and support to each child based on the varying needs and abilities of each child.
  • Assumes responsibility for outdoor play equipment; reports safety hazards.
  • Completes routine paperwork, assessment documentation, and performs record-keeping activities related to supervising and monitoring activities.
  • Attends to minor medical needs including carrying and dispensing band-aids, providing cloths for nosebleeds, and other minor needs.
  • Works with students individually or in small groups in and out of regular classrooms under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Reinforces the instructional plan laid out by the classroom teacher.
  • Provides instructional assistance and motivates students in all subject areas.
  • Plans and prepares classroom materials such as art projects and learning materials.
  • Assists teacher with classroom activities; leads breakout sessions.
  • May provide supervision during full day routine, including play and learning activities, for students during non-school day care.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service training when required.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

Education and Experience :

  • One (1) year of curriculum support experience.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations :

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

  • Class 4 : $18.65 - $23.99 per hour range; dependent on experience.
