The Facilities Manager reports to the Director of Facilities and supervises the facilities maintenance technicians and the associated service board, the preventive maintenance program as well as oversees miscellaneous outside vendors contracted for repair.
Maintains the security of the maintenance shop (located at 120 Elm Street) and all equipment associated with the maintenance shop.
This position requires hands-on support for maintenance of our locations.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Responsible for actively ensuring the day-to-day operations, which includes assisting the team in repairing all needed plumbing, electrical, HVAC, paint, drywall, furniture, janitorial and other building related issues, as is needed.
- Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
- Be able to work with the conditions and physical demands which relate to the essential functions of the position to include commuting to our multiple locations in National City, Downtown San Diego and Oceanside.
- Supervise the facilities department service board, always ensuring the facilities maintenance technicians have the supplies they need and assist them in performing tasks related to service requests.
- Coordinates directly with the director of facilities and appropriate vendors to oversee preventative maintenance program in the mechanical room and elsewhere within the facility.
- Visually inspects the machinery and equipment.
- Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
- Installs, programs or repairs automated machinery and equipment.
- Sets up and operates various machine tools.
- Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring and other related maintenance activities.
Other Duties :
- Notifies Facilities Director concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating and ventilating equipment.
- Preserves a supportive work environment by treating people with dignity, respect, compassion and integrity at all times, and works to resolve grievances;
maintains professionalism and promotes a positive Mission image.
- Supports and participates in the job training program; assists program staff in creating a productive, therapeutic, educational and professional environment that enables students to learn and / or develop job skills and appropriate workplace behaviors.
- Contributes to team effort by reading, understanding and supporting the Strategic Plan.
- Performs job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him / herself or others; respects and conforms to Mission's Staff / student Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment policies as well as all other guidelines regarding behavior and conduct.
- Follows both standard operational and program procedures and reports needed changes.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive Mission information, such as student, employee and / or donor data.
Education : Minimum high school diploma.
Experience : Minimum 2 years full-time work experience in Construction / Building or related field.
Skills and Abilities : General, hands-on trade experience which includes proper handling of tools and machinery, experience in Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Safety, Paint, Dry wall, Janitorial and building maintenance.
- Hands on computer experience with basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook); typing (min 35 wpm); coordinate and / or direct a variety of complex tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully;
- exercise good judgment and make sensible decisions; attentive to detail; prioritize effectively; effective oral and written communication skills;
- eagerness to learn and be trained; work both independently and as part of a team; provide information to public by answering questions and requests;
regular, timely attendance.
The incumbent generally works in a residential setting, which consists of individuals who may have a mental or physical disability or illness.
Physical resources may be limited and, in some cases, are donated.
Must work evenings, overnights, weekends, and / or holidays as needed.
Must be on-call or participate in an on-call rotation (As Requested).
