Engineering Manager, Billing Engineering

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a core function in our billing engineering department, someone who will collaborate closely with product teams and business partners to prioritize and advance our shared strategic goals.

You will play a key role in both engineering and design processes, while also providing guidance and mentorship to a group of engineers.

You should have a strong understanding of what it takes to lead efficient engineering teams and maintain a strong focus on user needs.

This team is responsible for building secure, reliable, and adaptable systems that empower our product teams to quickly launch products that meet the evolving needs of our users.

This person will be responsible for guiding the development of a back-end engineering team, fostering clear communication across teams and with senior leadership, aligning priorities, and enabling the team to craft innovative solutions.

What You'll Be Doing :

  • Leading a team of back-end software engineers developing and operating our in-house metering and rating system which is responsible for the timely and accurate billing for all of DigitalOcean’s hundreds of thousands of customers.
  • Planning and executing complex technical projects.
  • Developing efficient team processes to effectively deliver value to our customers and the business.
  • Collaborating across the organization and consistently interfacing with product and platform engineering teams across the company.
  • Developing Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and utilizing these Key Results to measure and report on the success of the team.
  • Developing processes and tools to improve team performance and quality-of-life.
  • Developing processes and tools to improve product performance and quality.
  • Reviewing and giving input on architectural system designs.
  • Career coaching including performance assessment, and career development.
  • Technologies we use : Kubernetes, Go, gRPC, Kafka, SQL, Grafana, and Prometheus.

What We'll Expect From You :

  • Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring software engineers
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high growth tech environment building and scaling internal platforms.
  • Able to make effective trade-offs in regards to both engineering and product requirements, while balancing short term and long term needs
  • Regularly give feedback to team members on wins, and areas to improve.
  • Lead a team where individuals enjoy coming to work, know what needs to be done, and have the resources to get their job done.
  • Experience managing and delivering projects throughout the entire SDLC
  • Experience developing cross-disciplinary collaboration between engineering, operations, support, and product groups
  • Experience with end-to-end quality best practices and their implementation
  • Experience with staffing, interviewing, building, and retaining teams
  • Experience conveying complex ideas in written, verbal and presentational formats

While the philosophy around our benefits is the same worldwide, specific benefits may vary based on local regulations and preferences.

We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is between $140,000 - $180,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills.

You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.

We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
