Job Summary
The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for the effectiveness and proper management of Occupational Health and Safety Programs across the fleet.
This position provides guidance / training to Plant Management and Staff on Health and Safety programs. Works closely with Plant Management in the development and implementation of site-specific H&S policies and procedures.
Responsible for tracking the frequency and content of each plant’s safety program. The H&S Specialist will develop and build strong professional working relationships with each plant across the fleet.
Position reports to the Director of Health and Safety.
Job Functions
- Establishes and articulates the safety strategy of the Company.
- Serves as technical safety specialist to plant safety and management personnel.
- Inspects, tests, and evaluates workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure that they follow safety standards, safety procedures and government regulations.
- Evaluates plant site workplace health and safety programs and procedures.
- Assists in the design and implementation of workplace processes and procedures that help to protect workers from hazardous work conditions.
- Educate plant personnel about workplace safety and emergency preparedness by preparing and providing training programs.
- Demonstrate correct use of safety equipment.
- Conducts safety and regulatory audits of the Plants, evaluating compliance and identifying areas for improvement.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents and accidents to identify the cause utilizing root cause analysis techniques to prevent similar incidents and to determine preventative measures.
- Oversight of the annual OSHA 300 reporting requirements.
- Travel required.
