Job Summary :
Provides direct patient care to pediatric through geriatric patient populations. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
Communicates with gastroenterologist and / or anesthesiologist continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with procedures.
Assists with maintaining equipment and inventory. Participates in performance improvement activities. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and Hospital policies, procedures and standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Coordinates and supervises patient care.
Demonstrates ability to perform head-to-toe prep procedure assessment on all patients and reassesses interprocedure and post procedure as needed.
This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors.
Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory's and the patient care unit's policies and procedures.
Ability to interpret results of waived tests; take appropriate action on waived tests results.
Demonstrates ability to formulate an individualized plan of care as indicated and evaluates for effectiveness.
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians in performing procedures in the GI Laboratory.
Demonstrates knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient's clinical condition.
Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
Formulates a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate, from pre-op to discharge.
Provides patient with explanation and verbal reassurance consistently.
Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.
Demonstrates knowledge in all areas of care specific to the GI Laboratory, including moderate sedation.
Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring and can identify dysrhythmias.
Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases / conditions, care required and good judgment.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Practices good guest relations.
Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patient and family.
Communicates appropriately with nurse manager, coworkers and physicians.
Consults other departments, as needed and as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
