Salary Range :

  • Bachelor's Degree : $59,000–$97,000
  • Master's Degree : $64,000–$102,000
  • PhD : $63,000–$103,000

About the Role

A dynamic and inclusive charter school in Northwest Washington, D.C., is seeking a Middle School Reading Intervention Teacher to join its committed team for the 2025 school year.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate literacy educator— SPED-certified or willing to take the SPED Praxis —who thrives on helping students who are reading below grade level build foundational literacy skills and confidence. Because scholars are reading at early elementary levels, experience teaching in elementary settings is highly preferred.

This role involves working with very small class sizes (often structured as small groups) to provide targeted reading instruction and intervention, helping students close skill gaps and grow as readers and thinkers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, small-group reading instruction to middle school students performing at early elementary reading levels.
  • Design and implement individualized and evidence-based reading interventions , including phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies.
  • Use assessment data (formal and informal) to identify reading gaps , monitor progress, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with general education and special education teachers to differentiate instruction and align literacy supports with grade-level content.
  • Develop IEPs and progress-monitoring reports (if SPED certified) and ensure compliance with all relevant policies and documentation standards.
  • Cultivate a warm, supportive learning environment that promotes confidence, persistence, and joy in reading.
  • Communicate regularly with families, colleagues, and school leadership to celebrate progress and address challenges collaboratively.
  • Participate in professional development and school-based literacy initiatives.

    • Requirements

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Certification : SPED certification or willingness to take the SPED Praxis . Reading Specialist certification or training in intervention programs (e.g., Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, Fountas & Pinnell) preferred.
  • Experience : Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in elementary or literacy intervention settings.
  • Skills : Strong knowledge of literacy development and reading intervention strategies; ability to deliver differentiated instruction in small-group or one-on-one settings; excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills; empathy and patience.
