Job Description

The Director of Business Development is responsible for managing the sales process of large, complex software and infrastructure offerings that deliver energy and operational savings to major customers.

This includes promoting the full Optimum Energy suite to executive-level customers, creating solutions based on their business and financial needs, and handling all aspects of business development and client management.

The Director of Business Development is responsible for meeting sales targets and is eligible for sales commissions as milestones are achieved.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Qualify, pursue, and close new Energy as a Service (EaaS) infrastructure opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with the Executive suite of new and existing clients.
  • Understand customer needs, develop strategic plans to meet goals, and ensure awareness of all service offerings.
  • Research and gather information on potential clients, projects, utility programs, and target markets to obtain leads. Identify key client decision makers to position software and renewable service agreements and measured savings as the foundation of managed account relationships.
  • Research financial, industry, and competitor trends. Build and maintain market strategies, including SWOT analysis, competitive analysis, and up-selling / cross-selling.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with our internal Engineering Solutions team and other key stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure successful account growth and project delivery.

Handoff projects to PM upon award. Participate in client kickoff meetings.

  • Manage, direct, and / or execute all aspects of fee proposals, qualification packages, and RFP / RFQ responses. Participate in interviews and related sales activities.
  • Follow established development processes and take direction from senior leadership.
  • Participate in lunch or after-hours networking opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at local / regional / national industry organization events.
  • Work closely with the VP of Project Development and the VP of Engineering Solutions.

Key Competencies and Skills :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years' of demonstrated complex solution sales, business development, or project development experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in the architectural, engineering, construction, or real estate industry.
  • Verifiable experience in successfully establishing a client, customer, and outside consultant base within the industry.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach to maximize internal project development engineering, energy engineers, financial modelers, technical support, legal, and other sales support resources.
  • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well-versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary.

Preferred :

  • Deep experience and understanding of energy efficiency projects. Knowledge of retro-commissioning, utility programs, energy service contracts, and / or energy-as-a-service is a differentiator.
  • Experience / understanding of HVAC mechanical systems and / or central chilled water / boiler plant operations. The ability to read / interpret mechanical blueprints is a plus.

Knowledge of building construction, general contracting, and facility / systems commissioning is a differentiator.

Existing relationships and connections with potential clients in manufacturing, healthcare, higher education, or other industry partners that directly translate to sales leads.

Job Requirements :

Salary Pay Range :

$180,000 - $225,000 annual base salary plus commission
