Provide overall project management direction on a wide variety of construction and environmental projects. Personal initiative and critical thinking skills will be essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance.
The position is deadline-driven; project managers must be able to set priorities, take ownership of projects, work efficiently, and provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment.
Project managers must demonstrate innovation, excellent communication skills, and a high level of customer service.
The salary range for this position is $107,711-$157,042 / year; please note this is a tiered position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to) :
- Review and approve detailed project / component-level plans.
- Manage and oversee projects including managing the subcontracting process, and subcontractors’ activities, prepare technical evaluations on his / her engineering specialty, identify, and recommend solutions to mitigate issues and problems encountered during various construction phases, in accordance with the project scope of work, acceptable construction code / practices, and Federal and State regulations.
- Develop and define acceptance criteria for all project phases / key deliverables. Close monitoring of critical milestones and deliverables.
- Ensure project stays aligned with the strategic goals and delivers the planned / stated benefits.
- Provide engineering and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
- Collaborate with various groups within Ahtna and multiple client organizations.
- Identification analysis of all project risks and prepare a risk response plan.
- Proactive communication of risks to concerned stakeholders.
- Identify and ensure the resolution of all project-level issues.
- Manage all communications between internal stakeholders, clients, and third parties.
- Ensure preparation of various status and progress reports with metrics for various stakeholders.
- Align all the project components and groups to ensure project success.
- Supervise construction field staff and tradesmen. Work closely with site superintendents in executing a wide variety of construction activities, overseeing and conducting field quality control functions with field QC staff.
- Foster a high-performance team environment where diversity is valued, and people are treated with respect and dignity. Applying innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
- Ensure compliance with all quality, regulatory, and security processes.
- Preparing and reviewing proposals per RFP and bid documents including estimating and bid reviews.
- Authoring and / or reviewing contract deliverables including, but not limited to, product or technical submittals, work plans, safety plans, sampling and analysis plans and reports.
- Support field staff as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications :
All levels :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Physical / Environmental Sciences, or another relevant field of study.
- Experience may be substituted for education on a 1 : 1 basis.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicle.
- Experience with Federal and State contracting.
- Ability to pass background checks by various Federal Agencies (e.g., DOD, DHS, FAA, etc.) to obtain security access badges.
- Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc., and their impact on project activities.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing.
Level - II :
Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience; specialized training and / or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience.
Level - Senior :
Five (5) or more years of relevant working experience; specialized training and / or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling software.
- GIS Software.
- Professional Registration such as PE, PG, or PMP.
- Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.

Physical Demands (including but not limited to) :
Frequent sitting for prolonged periods, using hands / fingers requiring dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper, reaching with hands and arms for items above and below desk level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus);
walking from place to place.

- Work requires computer usage with strength, dexterity, coordination, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and video display terminal and other office equipment.

Work Schedule : Monday-Friday 8 : 00 a.m.-5 : 00 p.m., or as needs dictate.
