The Surgical Technician is a member of the health care team working directly under the supervision of the Surgeon. The primary responsibility is scrubbing surgical procedures and assisting the professional staff in the care of the patient.
The Surgical Technician must possess a thorough knowledge of aseptic and sterile technique and assumes responsibility for high degree of accuracy and control of details.
Assumes responsibility for call according to department policy. Must be discreet to confidential patient, family, employee and financial information.
Variable shifts and on call weekends and holidays.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist in the care and preparation of the patient by performance of routine and delegated duties.
- Performs scrub duties efficiently and accurately. Gathers needed supplies, opens supplies utilizing sterile technique.
- Observes changes in surgeons’ technique or supplies and relays this information for preference card changes.
- Collaborates with Registered Nurse in the delivery of patient care.
- Assists in housekeeping duties and cleanliness in the department as directed to ensure safe patient environment.
- Demonstrates ability to problem solve and anticipate needs of the team. Responsible for prudent use of supplies and equipment.
- Interventions with patients / families of all age groups : neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatrics.
- Participates and contributes in department goals as related to service excellence, caregiver engagement, stewardship and quality and safety.
Position Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to prepare correct supplies, equipment and instrumentation for patients of all age groups.
- Displays high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrates ability to operate computers and operate equipment.
Minimum / Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited program in Surgical Technology
- Certified Surgical Technician within one year of hire
