Customs Specialist

Department : Customs and Compliance
Reports to : Customs Manager
Type : Full-time
Key Responsibilities :
- Customs Clearance : Manage the preparation and submission of customs documentation, including entry filings, duty calculations, and compliance reports.
- Regulatory Compliance : Stay updated on customs regulations, tariffs, and trade laws to ensure full compliance with all applicable legal requirements.
- Client Consultation : Provide expert guidance to clients on customs matters such as classification, valuation, and country-of-origin requirements.
- Problem Resolution : Address and resolve customs-related issues or delays swiftly by collaborating with clients, carriers, and government agencies.
- Auditing and Review : Perform periodic audits of customs entries and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Training & Education : Offer training and guidance to internal teams and clients on best practices in customs compliance and procedures.
- Relationship Management : Build and maintain strong relationships with customs officials, government agencies, and key industry stakeholders to ensure efficient clearance processes.
- Process Improvement : Identify and implement opportunities to streamline customs procedures, increase efficiency, and reduce costs for clients.
Qualifications :
- Industry Experience : Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, or a related industry.
- Expert Knowledge : Comprehensive understanding of customs regulations, tariffs, import / export procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Communication Skills : Strong verbal and written communication abilities for effective interaction with clients, government agencies, and internal teams.
- Problem-Solving : Demonstrated experience in resolving customs-related issues under time constraints, with a creative and proactive approach.
- Attention to Detail : Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail in handling customs documentation and compliance processes.
- Technical Skills : Proficient in customs brokerage software and MS Office applications.
